erm, I was obviously mistakenly thinking the purpose of this thread was to advertise good deals..... better than one can get elsewhere.... and not the technical intricacies of each deal... whatever.... carry on

there aren't protracted discussions around every bargain. in this case after sales service levels were discussed. would you not be interested in that information if you were going to purchase the mentioned bargain?

mostly not - I avoid certain brands based on what I have read, but as I said...... carry on
 
If it counts for anything - my decision to purchase said ACER R3999 laptop from Game was partly based on the positive feedback received in this thread.....
 
just recommended that acer @ 3999 for the parents. has free onsite warranty for 3 years. and your experience makes me glad. no hassles FTW!

Just so you know, the onsite warranty is not an onsite warranty.
I bought an Acer from Game a while back. The network port stopped working after around 4 months. Called the number Game said i should call (Can't remember who it was). They told me to take it to Game and they will fetch it from there and return it to Game when its fixed.

Salesperson I bought from said to keep the proof of purchase, as well as a print out of the game pamphlet showing the 3 year on site.

On-Site means at MY site... if they gave me the run around I would force game to refund me and take the laptop back on the grounds of false advertising. Finish and klaar!

It may be worth the effort of clarifying it now, rather that than when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Not sure what they sold you but onsite definitely means they come to you. That's always been the case with Acer's we've sold although we do buy directly from authorised distributors like Axiz etc., rather than from retail stores, so I have no idea whether they've maybe sold you a standard 1 year warranty with the extra 2 years from Game (just speculating here but I know Unbearable Connection used to do that).
Either way, if you have an Acer onsite warranty (or any other brand btw), they definitely come out to you, as they're supposed to. You should fish out your warranty form and read through it to see exactly what you're entitled to.

So i pretty much just told this to Game and let them sort it out. Eventually after 2 weeks!!!! They came and fixed it. (Replaced motherboard)
The laptops i have bought online that come with On Site Warranty got sorted out On Site as stated.

If you were dealing with a repair place instead of calling Acer themselves then that's not a manufacturer warranty. You probably just got a 1 year standard warranty, which is never onsite.
With a proper manufacturer's onsite warranty, you call the support number on the website (be it Acer, HP, Dell etc.), give them a serial number, they do phone support to see if it is a hardware problem, and if it is, they log a call and send someone to you.
You should go to www.acer.co.za, call the support number and give them the serial no. of your hardware. They'll be able to tell you what kind of warranty it has.

Oh sorry, I thought you said you bought an onsite and they never came out. Which obviously didn't make sense.

BTW, you can get a warranty extension (which is usually onsite) directly from the manufacturer for most brands these days, so even if the store doesn't give the option, you can still get the peace of mind. Not sure about prices - I know HP is usually quite pricey, Acer's much more reasonable. Most Dell's seem to come with 3 year onsite these days. Samsung usually also 3 year standard, but not onsite I think. Lenovo, depends on the model

There is no ambiguity involved in it what so ever. If I bought the laptop and it went weird inside that 3 year period, Game or the Repair company would be coming to my property to fix.

Exactly my point, and the game specials pamphlet said "free 3 year on site warranty valued at R1500". So on-site is wherever I sleep at night, not my game store.

And if I had a problem with the laptop, I would contact ACER directly and they would probably just ask for proof of purchase.

EDIT:

Incredible Corruption has a Lenovo i3 on special for R3499 this weekend but it only has a year warranty and 2GB RAM......... ACER deal wins in my book

Game was selling it with a 3 Year On Site warranty advertised. :p. That is the problem i had. Don't take Games word for it being onsite. Ask their sales guys first on what the procedure will be if it breaks. It took over 2 weeks of fighting with them to eventually get it fixed onsite.

Yeah that makes sense. No manufacturer would renege on their onsite warranty.
 
Couldn't find stock in CPT of that Acer deal (admittedly only tried today).

Game said they won't do a rain check since it is part of a clearance sale?! :/
