Just thought I'd mention that I only managed to secure 3 4870's for the batch next week, and 1 is already reserved. "Thestealth", did you get my pm?

that 4850 looks a like a great buy etai....

One good thing that might be coming from the killer inflation is that suppliers know that the disposable income of the gaming community is slowly running low hence the prices are looking much more reasonable - I am shocked at these keen prices (thinking back and comparing just 6 months ago when the 8800GT prices were killing due to limited supply and over demand.)

Gecube

prophecy is selling 4850's for 2.4k inc vat

now thats a deal

I see that this is a Gecube product. I am kinda afraid to buy another Gecube card cos the 3850 I bought for my son packed up this week.

Is Gecube good - quailty wise?

I think from now on I am gonna stick to XFX or maybe buy EVGA (10 year warantee)

The 4850s are still new, so right now there's not much difference between the cards (except for a few stickers :p) as they should still follow the reference design. :)

Specials was in the paper yesterday.
i couldn't find anything on the net.
Got myself a 360GB hdd for R500 (1199) and a great looking phillips skype phone for R100(299).
but you had to be there early.
what impressed me was the basic pc(still on special) which i got for my cousin, perfect for the laaities+comfort of ic's service.
R3K
hp branding
celeron d 3.3ghz
512mb ddr2
dvd-rw
card reader
usbX7
mouse
kbd
speakers
decent hp digi cam+1gig mem card+stack of photo paper+cutter thingie
15" acer lcd (no crt's available)
vista basic

R3K is a really good deal, especially if want to get the kids off your back.
first 20 160GB 2.5" drives were also R500.
monitors, pc's, laptops and lotsa other things are still on sale.

So it opened today already? :(

You reckon it's worth going out there for what is still on sale or is most of the good stuff gone?

XFX and eVGA are great brands ... but they are nVidia ... GeCube is generally a good brand, alternatively there is also Asus, Sapphire and HIS.

Well that and the fact that the cost on the card from the manufacturer is probably cheaper too :p

Are we expecting the prices for 4800 series to go up very soon? As these cards are very popular at the moment and I think the demand side will probably drive the price up?

Simple economics theoretically dictates a price increase in the second round of shipments ... look at the Q9450 for example.

Maybe I should get one now.....Price/Performance really good.

Oh, saw somepeople modded the 3850 drivers so now 3850 can have HD acceleration for PhysX now......What's next!!

cards these dats released form nvida and ati are all the same, different logo's

sure companies like xfx factory overclock but at the present monet, buy the cheapest because they all the same

also i suppose some companies put on different coolers but most are identical with different bundles

you dont get bad nvidia and ati card anymore, performance between different companies is not much anymore

again im not talking about factory overclocked versions

The first batch of 4850 (probably 4870 too) is all from the Palit factory in China, just with different stickers.

How can I jump on this bandwagon? Wouldn't mind reserving one too. PM me please;)

Let me know if you still want 1 ... I only have 2 left at R2249. And all 4870's I've placed on order are now reserved ...
I will try secure more.
