This is not the case here as the discrepancy can clearly be seen in the classifieds section of myadsl as well.

Cannot find the 4830 with a few quick searches. At the prices I see at the moment I would rather go for the 4850 at ~R2080 though.

Well she'll be going over solo.
Her parents have been their for a few years and have now been gunning for her to come over. She's finally decided that she will.
She's a bit fearful of getting over there, not knowing anyone besides her family who would not be able to help.
So she's asked for some help and in turn I have asked for some
So I'm hoping to at least guide her in the right direction and certainly an international warranty is needed
My advice: Buy in NZ.

Well if you knew Fcon_Vpro you would know that he's able to buy electronic goods at cost through his company. He also knows many people who buy expensive things and end up selling them literally a week later. He then helps these people sell the goods on the forums. He's not interested in making a profit on the goods since he isn't in the retail business (as far as i know). He's usually only interested in salvaging the cost of the goods. And anyway, if he wasn't legit, he wouldn't be able to provide the original warranties, which clearly isn't the case. You can choose to avoid creditable sellers like this, but it's not often you'll find someone selling a brand new 24" dell for R4500 on a regular basis.

If anyone's considering buying the LG DR389 DVD Recorder and is prepared to 'work the system' a little, you can nibble even more off the best current price.
It's on special at all Makro outlets until Christmas for R1099. But Game still has it at R1299. And Game's policy (I quote from their brochures) is "Found it cheaper? Not only will we beat the price, we will refund you 10% of the difference."
And hey, it worked for me, with the 'extra discount' given with good grace by my friendly Game manager once they had contacted Makro to check. Result: down from R1299 to R1099 in Game, with another R20 nibbled off by calculating their 'price-beating' promise. Bottom line: R1079.
And yes, I know, they say they will 'beat' the price and also offer the 10% discount, so they should technically have 'beaten' Makro's R1099. To R1098 perhaps? That's also 'beating'. Didn't want to get petty -- I'm happy with my deal....

Don't look for a branded HP unit -- the branded ones usually cost several limbs. What you want is a generic auto DC power adaptor, which can power almost any laptop (except the EeePC -- it runs at an 'odd' 9 volts or so) and costs just a couple of hundred bucks. I have used these for years, because I run my systems on solar power, far from the Eskom charades.
The most common unit is made by Vanson. It can occasionally be found in HiFi Corp or Dion Wired, though you may have to hunt a little as staff are not often aware of it. Ask for a car cigarette lighter transformer (or adapter) for your laptop. A specialist company which generally also carries it is Communica, which I think is now in Pretoria, Midrand and Joburg.
The unit can handle anything from about 11-14v coming in, regulating it well to switchable outputs of 15, 16, 18, 19,20, 22 or 24 v at a maximum output of 3.5 Amps, which is more than enough for most laptops unless they are humungous or you're running a lot of peripherals. Most can handle charging the laptop battery and using the computer at the same time. It comes with a pack of 'tips' matching virtually any laptop power socket -- but you absolutely need to be sure you get the polarity right; I have seen one of these things burn out a laptop within a flash, literally, when the polarity was switched by mistake! All you need to do is copy the polarity of your existing laptop power brick's output plug.
The other way to go is to buy a 12v-to-220v power inverter, readily available from many of the backstreet Asian-type electronic shops, for example, as they are widely used in the townships. But this really is an inefficient way to go and will quickly flatten your car battery: they have to take your 12 volts, pump it up to 220v, and then your normal laptop brick has to bring it back down to 19 volts or whatever your laptop uses. Not recommended for serious regular use. Using the direct DC adaptor you should be able to compute for a good couple of hours without flattening your car battery. Good luck!

how do you like the DR389, works great for me.
Haven't had a lot of opportunity to play with mine, but so far so good, and I even managed to find a hack on the net which should, theoretically, void the region coding (while hopefully not also voiding my warranty!). Quick tip: buy DVD+RWs, not the -RW variety, as the handbook says the unit is happier with these and will finalise them automatically. And although the box says it can handle dual-layer discs, the manual seems to suggest not, so I wouldn't count on it. And don't even THINK of using the facility which will allow you to squeeze 16 hours of video onto one DVD, unless you don't mind watching mush -- I tried!

17 out of date, 19" normal, 22 inch will be most popular next yr. the price in China now is around 1500 RMB. so if u r not in a hurry to upgrade, then wait for next yr, cause the exchange rate is terrible now. And I hv to mention is the LCD must come with DVI port and less than 5ms response. Why? HD movie is coming, old LCD with vga port will lose much more image signal during transfer the data from pc to monitor.
