Dude, 1. This is a South African forum. It's HIGHLY unlikely that anyone here will ship anything to India for you.
2. You're posting in the wrong thread. Start a new one and stop filling this one with rubbish.

RBP'd my own post :p

Laptop for R8k

A friend of mine is immigrating to New Zealand soon and needs a laptop.

Basically for varsity, to take notes, checking e-mail, Skype and a bit of surfing.

Her budget is quite constrained and is limited to R8k all costs inclusive.

General requirements:

Preferably to have XP and not Vista loaded on it.
A webcam for her Skyping needs.
1 gig of RAM should do.
80Gig or 120Gig HDD.
Wifi, SD card slot, USB and Bluetooth.

Anyway - you guys are the specialists - I'll leave it to you.
Don't know if this budget is big enough.

Oh - looking to purchase from the 15th of December.

So if you have any leads or advice drop a line.

Why doesn't she buy it there?

If she gets it here, make sure it has an international warranty. ;)

Well she'll be going over solo.
Her parents have been their for a few years and have now been gunning for her to come over. She's finally decided that she will.
She's a bit fearful of getting over there, not knowing anyone besides her family who would not be able to help.

So she's asked for some help and in turn I have asked for some ;)
So I'm hoping to at least guide her in the right direction and certainly an international warranty is needed :)

Damn, these Samsung SSD Drives are cheap - I just ordered a 2.5" 128GB from him and will probably try and collect tomorrow...will let you know if it's genuine :)

http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/seller/299773/fcon_vpro

He seems to have the 2.5" 64GB and 1.8" 64GB models too...

Just collected my Samsung 128GB SSD from this seller and he is 100% genuine - sealed unit and it works great - I think I got a real bargain, considering the cost of these SSD's in SA :)

If he has any more over by the end of the month, I'll be getting some more.

Sorry, but I don't trust it... The seller sells his 64GB's for R2100 AND his 128GB's for R2100. That is just not right.

The 128GB uses MLC flash technology which is much cheaper than the SLC technology of the 64GB. If anything the 128GB should be a bit cheaper than the 64GB.

The seller is well known over the other forums like Systemshock and Prophecy. He's usually known for seller Dell LCD's at great prices. Never heard of a single complaint about him.

No legit seller will ever sell eg. a 12 bedroom mansion at the same price as the 2 bedroom house just next door, unless there is Something wrong, right?

The price discrepancy set off a flag that I cannot ignore. Unless there is some uber valid reason, I would not buy it.

It could be an error, the seller could of used the same template(copied listing) and forgot to change the price,

I also use bidorbuy and sometimes copy the listing and just edit where necessary, sometimes after entering the correct info and going to step 2 of the listing process where u can preview, and then going back to step one changes the price to what it was originally, probably a bug with the listing process on bidorbuy.

A possible valid reason is that the 64GB SLC has been replaced with the latest SATA 2 models and the 128GB model is first generation MLC. Reading the specs on the 256GB MLC model access speed has been more than doubled.
I suspect these models are in danger of becoming obsolete and therefore are being sold at a discount. I still think at the prices quoted they represent very good value.
