++1 for that - just had one of my brand new Samsung 1TB's die again, after 10 days use and the fourth replacement by Kalahari - luckily I hadn't copied anything of value to it, only about 260GB of backup data... :mad:

Back to WD for me...

I'd also heard good things about them - now I'm certain I won't be buying again.

One ad-hoc failure I can live with, but after 4 returns of 2x 1TB drives with the same failures, I'm too hesitant to replace again.
 
Eish... first I was after those samsung drives for price point and good reviews, but now I'm hearing too many bad stories.

Are you guys cooling those drives? Are they perhaps not just overheating?

I definitely want a WD Caviar Black 1TB, but the price is a few hundred above Seagate and others.

Man, few years back I wouldn't have touched a WD drive. How things change... :P

Cooled with 4x 80mm fans, airflow is front intake to rear exhaust on case - drive temps average 29 degrees for the two Samsungs and 22/23 degrees for my eight WD's - on 24/7, no power management.

I don't think it's a heating issue in my case - just a bad batch of HDD's or bad make/model.
 
Yeah, sounds like it. Guess I'll steer away from Samsung then. Pity, they did seem real good. WD it is... until they start having bad batches. :D

What other drives have you got/had in your PC?

Struggling to get my head around as to how your Samsung drives can constantly fail...

Hmmm... Have you tried any other brand of drives in that machine? Maybe it is your PSU?
 
Just as I thought, the Samsungs cant be trusted.

I just heard of more failures this morning, with people having different makes on the same PSU, and those didn't fail, except the Samsung
