Managed to extract the hdd from the casing and it's got a standard 2tb sata hdd.

Yes, used a flat small screw driver to wedge and slowly move around it. Started at the front. One of the clips were bent but not to the extent that I couldn't bend it back.
Can reuse the casing later for another drive.

edit: I bit the bullet and bought one before load shedding was about to kick in...
I regret my decision of not pressing checkout haha.

I decided to go for it after checking out a few videos of the thing and decided I could live with one or two scratches
WD Green 2TB internal HDD from Esquire going for R779 excl. VAT.
