Looks like my ADSL modem died last night.
I have a bit of a dilemma....i am actually suppose to be on a 20MB VDSL line, but my ADSL modem was working fine.
so not sure if i should get an ADSL modem or VDSL.
i also have a nice wireless router so not really looking for anything fancy....
any advice?

your line might still be ADSL but with 20MB Speed, best to call telkom to find out the situation.

But I would go for VDSL Modem, you might want to bump up to 40mb later on

The only thing you gain with VDSL on a 20Mb/s line is a teensy tiny boost in upload speed.

To go from ADSL to VDSL, you will also have to be prepared to do battle with the Telkom support line.

If you need a modem today, you can pick up this one on special at Makro. I can personally vouch for it.

They don't seem to stock ones without Wi-Fi, but you can of course disable it.

I thought upload is doubled?

From a mighty 1Mb/s to maybe 2Mb/s if your line can handle it, yes. :D

As much as I long for higher upload speeds, that is not enough motivation to buy an expensive VDSL modem and waltz with Telkom's support line to change from ADSL to VDSL.

20Mb/s ADSL ftw.
