Should be fine off one usb 2 or 3 port.

Yup, as mentioned above, it'll work fine on a USB 2 port.

Don't have any experience on the tablet. Have you been to Edgars they do have the Huawei Media Pad 10 Link+ for R2999 (LTE/3G)

One can't reasonably compare a 2.5 & 3.5 external drive on pricing alone.
