My Seagate 3tb just died. A few weeks out of warranty obviously. I have been meticulous with my handling of this drive and only use it to copy to solid state media for watching series etc.

Now I get the click of death and have had to put it into my machine as an internal.

I will never buy seagate external again. Both my Samsung and wd have outlasted it be years.

NOTE: Amazon has combined the reviews for the 1TB, 2TB and 3TB versions of this product, with the 3TB version dominating the negative reviews (as of 2012-11-24), so pay attention to which version is being reviewed. This for expansion drive, don't know of they've gotten better since then.

My Seagate 2.5" 2TB (the slim drive) stopped working after a couple of weeks. Opened the case to try and do a repair on my machine - only to find it has a Samsung drive inside.

Sorry to sound noobish, but is Samsung not good with hard drives?

Samsung = Seagate. Seagate bought their hard drive division. You'd have seen the model number belongs to Seagate, ST2000LMxxx or similar, yet the brand and S/N were Samsung's.

Samsung model numbers are HDxxx (3.5") and HMxxx (2.5").

They can add my seagate 3tb to that list.

My seagate 3tb also packed in.. Went and bought an external enclosure, broke open the seagate one, and voila! Have my 3tb back again..

Not saying it'll work for everyone, but I do think the rubbish seagate enclosure is responsible more often than people suspect..
