Makro are generally quite expensive and not a good benchmark for prices IMO. I'd say they are 20% more expensive than certain other places.

Makro is in most cases less expensive than Dionwired, as the latter caters more for the high-income market.

They are both Wal-Mart owned.

Regarding odd numbered drives - they're usually less reliable because they have an extra platter - hence more moving parts. And when they move at those speeds...
That said, all drives are very reliable these days, so I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as I've heard - they have a fundamental drive issues (due to cost decreasing), which causes quick failure. I might be wrong - but that's what I remember :)

This was for the earlier batches of DMxxx drives (usually DM001s e.g. ST3000DM001 (3TB)), the 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB.

These issues have been resolved, we've had the newer versions for quite some time now.

The 4TBs and up have proven to be very reliable.

Nothing to worry about. :)

Not so. Makro had the same 5TB with a 1TB USB 3.0 portable for R2,999. That is on par, or actually slightly cheaper, as the 1TB portables usually retail for over R999.

This is not necessarily true, but yes, technically the higher capacity the drive, the more room for failure.

Nothing about odd numbers though...

Great thanks, I do like the concept of the Chromecast but I think the Roku SE on sale Black Friday for $25 is the better option, for people considering the buy.
How is the Roku better, is it just about the same concept as a Google chromecast?
Is it also power by the HDMI port, just plug n go?

I prefer the Roku because it has an actual UI and remote, with the Chromecast you have to use your phone for everything, the Roku has external power.

Is there any WhatsApp group for these bargain posts? I often see the best ones too late.

If not, might be an idea to open 2 groups for it, 1 with only the links and the other for discussions. What you guys think?

I think I suggested that before

A telegram group might be better, considering the ease of use / PC app.
