In this day and age you don't need screen protectors. Maybe cheap phones don't come with Gorilla Glass but that's why I don't buy them...

Ive had screen protectors with all previous phones but edge didnt have one on the market and i was forced to be without. No difference noted (sorry. Not relevant to this forum)

Refurbished normally means new covers/battery/passed factory diagnostics. 2hnd/used on the other hand could be anything.
