I won't be buying expensive hardware from SA.

Amazon: R5800 for gtx 1070 strix
Wootware: R8500

I know you don't get the awesome customer support that wootware has to offer, but those price differences... pretty sexy

Where is this 1070 Strix for R5800?

Importing can be a real headache though, just bear it in mind. I bought my 1070 Armor from a guy in Taiwan for I think like R6800, but they charged me R1200 customs and it took a month to arrive. My wife imported some clothing from a lady in the US for around $250 and got charged R1600 a couple weeks back after 6 weeks of shipping. It's not something I'll do easily again.

That 40% for clothing is crazy since most of our stuff come from China. Not like they protecting the local industry.

That's very high, the import duties on my Fury X from Amazon (US) was almost half that at R670 and it only took just over a week to get here.

Amazon is hassle free, you know the duties up front and shipping is fast and relatively cheap. And they will at least cover return shipping if there is an issue, just you have to arrange it and then send them the invoice for a refund.

Wonder if it will be worth while to import a 144hz gaming monitor via Amazon...

It should be illegal to charge import duties on items that are not produced here, i.e. 144Hz monitors.
I agree, however to us there is a difference, but to the authorities they see there is locally produced monitors, and assume we all want that.

There are? What, 13" 24Hz monitors?

In that case, yeah, they're morons. They are clearly employing the wrong people to make these laws. But I knew that, so I'll shut up now.

I'm sure Hisense gets manufactured locally...
