I was looking forward to buying a 1080ti and I placed the order in January through Loot.

It seems like there are no graphics cards (1080ti) in the country due to these damn miners. They can't source a card from any supplier.

I now probably have to wait for the 2080ti and hope that these miners don't f*** my day up again.

ATM, I'm sitting with a broken 7950HD and I still have a few games waiting to be played in 4K.

I've seen a few new ones pop up on Carbonite every now and then. Any brand/model you're specifically after?

If you pair the 1700 with a decent cooling solution then you may get away with a few more millivolts. Anything past 1.35v seems to raise the temps exponentially, something that the higher binned chips should remedy.

That being said, is it really worth the extra cost over and above the vanilla chip if you only intend squeezing another 200 or 300mhz out of it? Plus the added cost of a liquid cooler.

I am looking with keen intent at the 1700 as well, as the stock cooler is sufficient for a mild OC and you have an octacore for futureproofing. That being said, the Ryzen 5 1600 seems to be renowned for excellent value for money (the 'i5 2500k' of AMD) and you won't notice the difference between it and the 1700 with most games. Productivity is another issue, though, and some content creation programs will definitely benefit from the extra two cores.

Good luck either way :D

My 1700 been running all-core OC at [email protected] since day one basically, although it is cooled with a 280mm radiator.

It gets pushed to 100% a lot as I work with C++ daily and need to recompile a lot. Been rock solid for me.

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Card (11GB).

But Nvidia is apparently unveiling the 2080ti in April so I'll probably wait for that.

I don't know where the 20xx series naming comes from that some media outlets are reporting. Seems odd that they'd go 4xx, 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, 8xx, 9xx, 10xx, 20xx. Why not 11xx?

I don't think Nvidia has revealed this yet, but maybe I'm wrong.

Wootware has a couple.

As soon as someone publishes hash rates of the new cards, the best ones will sell out. You better pre-order as soon as the preorders open :D

:p

Probably going to spend around R150 more due to VAT on my new build...I can't even buy a decent gin with that so not too worried...
The VAT increase is not going to affect people that can afford R10k+ computers that much. but those people in the townships that are struggling already are the ones who will be affected the most.

anyway back to hardware deals. I'm in the market for a media server rebuild. current pc is a decade old now and starting to suffer with newer content. ie. 2k and 4k.

where best place to buy components these days? haven't built a new pc since 2008.

I am in the market for a beginners drone, budget +-10k. Any recommendations or good deals?

I find Wootware and Rebeltech to have competitive pricing, and you can try Raru too but they seem to have less variety when it comes to certain components.

Got any specs in mind?

Can't seem to locate this one online, but it is printed in Incredible Connection's latest catalogue.

....and go!

i don't have any specs. have a budget of R6k. just need mobo cpu and ram. going to shop around. thanks for places.

Was looking last night and the prices are ridiculous :(

All over the world - apparently due to shortages on the supply side. Smartphone manufacturers are eating up RAM modules from the chip manufacturers such as Micron, Hynix and Samsung and then I suppose the ramped up production of GFX cards for cryptocurrency mining also takes quite a big portion of the memory supply.

And of course there were rumours of price collusion between certain chip manufacturers, which adds fuel to the fire.
