Buying directly from Amazon with shipping and everything is ~R1300 cheaper than buying locally.
I don't understand why more stores aren't bringing this in, it seems to be the best Android top box from various sources. The only issue is price, but I suppose you pay for software updates, strong SoC, many ports etc. R7k locally for it is a real joke though.

Also it seems that you can't order the Pro version from Amazon for some reason, it doesn't ship to SA. The standard Shield TV is ZAR 3,358.30 with delivery and customs though if anybody is interested.

If you mass import a items you will have problems with ICASA and NRCS, hence stores don't bother with it.

I got to R2500 with xe.com. Where did you get R3358 from?

Vodacom 1 day special or not

Saw this, Apparently a one day special from vodacom, I know cell is still cheaper without the special and rain, but the coverage with vodacom is generally good

Hi,
Maybe a stupid question, but why do you want a Nvidia shield?, I just checked out the website and it looks like a normal android streaming box on which you can play android games on?, Even R2500 is bloody expensive in my opinion. Or what am I missing here?

Also crazy how expensive this is here. I asked a friend in the states to bring me a Chromecast Ultra, cost me R950.

I decided to get a MI BOX 3 in stead of a Chrome Cast. The Mi box has Google Cast build in (android tv). Seems like a lot more bang for buck since you get to install local apps + it comes with a USB port + BT remote. Goes for around R1000 locally. I've read somewhere that the Mi Box struggles a bit with 4k though - not sure if its been solved.

I've heard good things about the Mi box though, it's not a Shield but for the price probably the best value.

Shield was optimised for game streaming (from a gaming PC placed elsewhere in the house) and had the rest of the android functions as a "nice to have".

I'm also using the Mi Box now for streaming but had to upgrade my access point to one with 802.11ac, as the old 2.4GHz fiber router couldnt cope and the Mi Box doesnt have an ethernet port. Theres more info in the Mi Box thread if anyone's interested.

For the purposes of this bargains thread, the Mi Box is definitely a more affordable option to the Shield as it runs moonlight and now the Steam Link app.

My setup is this:
I have a gaming computer in one of the bedrooms. I am a PC Gamer so I play most of my games in the room.

But on those occasions where I have guests over, "the boys"; I want to stream multiplayer games from my PC to my living room TV using GameStream on the shield.
This is the main reason behind the purchase, instead of me having to carry my PC to the living room all the time.

Games that "The Boys" will play is WWE 2K18 and other multiplayer games where screen sharing will not be present.

No other Android box allows this.

Ooooo okay, then yes the Nvidia Shield makes perfect sense, nice looking controller :)

I thought you guys only want this for probable 4K streaming, in which case I wanted to recommend a secondhand Xbox One S which goes quite cheaply for what you get.
