In order to become an ISP what are the harware devices one has to install?

But, seriously ... what kind of internet service provider? An internet cafe? A wireless internet service provider? A website hosting company? A fixed line adsl provider?

There's no clear cut answer here - depends on what services you are going to offer.

you could have a 486 with a 1200 baud modem and become a ISP - not that you will get any customers

I would recommend you rather start off as a reseller - the above quote about if you are asking the question is 100% correct.

Being a service provider requires that you are a professional at what you do and have done a lot of research and experience with it.
