Hi, i'm thinking about opting for the Harman Kardon sound system on a new 1 series coupe. Has anyone heard the Harman Kardon loudspeaker system? Is it a big improvement over the standard sound?
 
I can only speak for the Harmon Kardon in a 330i about 6 years ago. Its awesome!!! very very nice. No distortion, no vibration, punchy bass and crystal clear highs. Whether its worth the money is up to you.
 
Are you an 'audio' person?

I've spoken to people who couldn't really care what the sound is like, as they listen to Highveld or some radio station. To them, paying anything extra is a waste.

Like said above, you need work out if it's worth it.

How much extra is it?

I got my 118i with Harmon Kardon about 3 months ago. A friend of mine has the previous 1 series and his audio system is the default option. The two are simply incomparable.

The difference in quality is significant. More so when using original disks or mp3s. If, like me, you love your music, got for it!

In retrospect, I would have also gooi'd that built-in iPod/iPhone integrated system.

I am definitely an audiophile, had a detailed Alpine custom set up in my G6 GTI.
Seems like i slipped up on this one though, the dealer says the status is 1200 and its too late to add anything to the car. I don't know if he is just saying this though as the expected delivery date is only in the week of 21/05 and actual production hasn't started yet..

Looking at my options now, there is an Alpine retrofit option that BMW installs after delivery. This is better than the standard system but not as good as the HK. Don't really want to go full custom again.

Never too late to add it, your money your rules.

The HK sound system in the 530 is unbelievable!!
Hard to say worth the money, but its definitely better than an after market system.
 
It's a 123d M sport plus coupe.
I'm waiting for a regional manager to call me back about whether or not its still possible to add to the order.
I don't have much faith in them though.
 
Is it not possible to cancel and reorder a new one with the sound?
 
Standard BMW sound is very weak! U better get the HK system one time boet!
I had to upgrade the sound in my Beemer and its still not as good as the HK system

I thought of doing this but in all fairness i did delay with the decision so the initial problem was on my side and not the dealers.
Spoke to the dealer now again and they say the car has a chassis number now so no way the order will be amended.

An HK system would have been nice, aftermarket is going to cost so much more.

The cost is not as much a factor as your motorplan gettiing cancelled.
 
Good news, the dealer was nice enough to order me another car, the current one being built will go to another customer.
I have to wait another two months for the new car to arrive but at least it will have the HK 10 speaker system from the factory.

Great stuff. Hope you also added those xenon lights.... something about those things that just gives the 1 series a much more sexier look! How I regret not putting them in!!!
 
Excellent!

I've always said the 3 options I want on my next car are xenon, upgraded sound and sunroof.

Bluetooth, DVD players and cruise control are great - but if I picked it'd be those
 
Thanks for the tip, i've added xenons and electric side mirrors. Crazy that electric mirrors are not standard. I always hated having to manually fold the side mirrors on the G6.

In my books this is the most "useless" feature on a car ever... I have been driving all over the show for 7 years now, and dont think I have had to fold the mirrors up once in my cars (the Chrysler Grand Voyager is a different story)...

The 1 is not that large a car that you would have a need for it in SA (Small Italian towns are once again a different story)...
