I'm thinking about changing to Megasurf because my Telkom line is horrible!
Has anyone used them? I was told by one of their representatives that your speed gets halved when you're being shaped. On all protocols though, I'm thinking about getting the first 4Mbps package, I'm getting 2Mbps on my 4Mbps line right now so I don't really mind being shaped.

But how is the speed? is it stable? And how is your overall experience with Megasurf?
If you have service with them can you attach some speed tests please

Thanks guys

You are aware that IF the issue is with your "ADSL line", that switching to another ISP may not actually do anything?

Make sure the issue is NOT with your ADSL line itself before making a jump to another ISP ........

And if the line itself is okay, that you understand what options are available to you with your current ISP .....

Thanks for your reply, apparently a new software was implemented on the DSLAM which changed your line depending on certain conditions. But it was worked perfectly before they introduced this new "software", I had 3 Telkom techs come look and 1 from mobile department, I had Afrihost look and they couldn't do anything. Its the Telkom line, not the ISP.

Megasurf is a wireless provider, so the ADSL line will have no impact. I was a client when I still lived in Vanderbijlpark. Service was great, had almost no downtime at all. Speed was also stable as far as I remember. This was a few years ago, I am not sure how their packages are these days.

Right so switching to a Wireless Internet Provider is an alternative , but I still think you have not exhausted all the possibilities with getting your ADSL service setup correctly .....

What is the problem you are experiencing?

What do the ADSL router diagnostics tell you about your line?
Have you asked any changes to be made to your basic configuration?

How about posting some line stats for others to comment on?

Stats look the same as before.
I believe software at the DSLAM (Assia DSLExpresse) is syncing my line lower to make it more stable because I live 5 KM away from the exchange. But I'm not sure how to determine if its something else, because the stats look the same.

Afrihost gave me this:
Line fault analysis for 011------- (performed at 2016-04-29 12:04:17)
Fault classification: intermittent
Recommended action: Report fault
Notes:
* There have been 5 port errors in the last 4 days

They said they will report another fault with more information on the fault. We'll see what happens.

Yeah I know, I'm thinking of going the wireless route.

Just to chip in, my friend gets great service, uptime and speed from Megasurf and now we are looking into getting it at the office too (helps when they use your tower as a high site :p )

Pro: Great speed, service, uptime, no real problems (although load shedding do affect them - not an issue anymore though)
Cons: Price - for wireless providers they are priced well, but can't compete with ADSL. At my house, I will stick with ADSL (but I know some areas are worst off)
