No excuse. I'm a white male and I work for a global corporate. Got in while finishing up my B.Sc. and am currently doing my M.Sc., that I got a bursary for from UNISA. Despite being white.

it's bloody tough! I'm also in marketing and I was unemployed from last year June till this year Feb!

You just got to keep at it until you get something. don't get despondent and try and stay motivated.

Maybe you shouldn't have studied marketing management? Much greater demand for BSc graduates with honours.

Congratulations on your achievements. I did Bsc for two years at Tuks but the programming was not for me. I think the IT and Eng. industry is the easiest to get into (provided you have the brains like you have). I was told by a company earlier this year that I do not represent their EE and they can not employ me. did not feel good. But I do not which to discuss politics.

Can you give me some tips? you have probably been working longer then me.

Thank you Baron

Yes I Did Bsc information and knowledge systems, but I dropped out. I did not enjoy it and I was in that res party mentality for my first two years. I am busy with honours now but its not going well.. stressing too much because I have no income.

Unfortunately politics is a huge factor in finding employment especially if you are qualified and you want a job in the field you studied.
Where are you based?

Get a LinkedIn profile, update it with everything relevant you've done thus far. Make sure your CV looks neat and professional. Have someone experienced in hiring proofread it for you. Use proper fonts, make sure the layout isn't a chore to sift through. Don't try to write paragraphs about mundane tasks you've completed previously.

If you can afford it (i.e. living with parents) offer to do work for free (ideally for reputable and well-known companies) to gain experience only. My first job was a 1 month thing at a small software dev company that paid me R1k for working 08h00 to 17h00 everyday of my varsity holiday. I initially offered to do it for free, they ended up giving me a bit of cash. They were eager to take me back later on too.

Hi Wall, What do you do now?

working as a marketing and sales officer, not my ideal job but it pays the bills..

Once, I've settled down in my job, I'll try and get something along my specialisation - marketing management.

Well, if you can not market yourself effectively enough to get a job in marketing, then you chose the wrong career path.

I am in Pretoria, I did an internship last year and my function in the company was as a market analyst. Politics is a huge factor, and it is difficult to ignore that certain laws are putting me in a disadvantaged situation. I have been looking at companies such as IPSOS, TNS, MIllward Brown, Nielsen, RDT Research and such, but no luck.

Sales is something I honestly do now want to do.. but I am starting to consider it.. what industry are you in? what type of products to you sell?

I would do sales but there must be a need for products, I do not want to manipulate people to buy stuff they do not need.

Hi Billy,

What you have just said makes no sense... how are you supposed to market yourself? my CV looks great, My linkedin too. and I am real as real can be in my interviews. I enjoy marketing and loved every subject I had.

Thank you

Not too real.

For example, nobody wants to hear about previous conflicts at work. You get along great with everyone. Everyone is cool. You like people, people like you.

I could give you a job, but I am scared that you will set up a feels meeting every other day.

Also, I am nowhere near where you live.

From Wiki: "Marketing is communicating the value of a product, service or brand to customers, for the purpose of promoting or selling that product, service, or brand."

You are the Product, potential Employers are the Customers. Unfortunately you will still have to "Sell" yourself after the marketing has brought in leads.

Having a degree means nothing these days, especially if you don't have an in demand one.

My cousin has a BSc Environmental Water Sciences Hons, still trying to find work. That's why I'm pushing the rest of my, still school going family, to either go BComm (pref Economics) or BEng.

But don't give up bud, I was unemployed for a year and half after graduating before I got my break.

It has been said that the consumer is the product nowadays. unfortunately employers wont let someone with a smart mouth who is able to "sell himself" get the job. you should have some skills and experience and know what to day behind the curtains.

Thank you gunner. I was starting to feel like it was only me sitting in this hole, but realising that it is not just me who is or have suffered a bit. I know of a guy who did bcom economics and has not worked a day in his life he is also 25. I think the best thing is to stay motivated and keep searching.

Yesterday I was bombarded by you and others about the way I "act" on the forums... I do not get why you have to get the "feels" thing involved. But I believe you are probably just being humorous, in that case lol.

what industry are you in and what do you do?
