Has everyone deserted iBurst?

Yes I have, I went to a Telskam shop this weekend and applied for an ADSL line. I've had ENOUGH  of iBurps!

And now we wait for an installation date.... :(

I have two desktop modems up for grabs when my ADSL line goes in, I will let them go for R250 a piece. Or if you want to give me some scrap electronics stuffs then you can take them off my hands also

There are some "ISP's" that could give you a few more rands for those white or black bricks...

I'm still on, but I don't know for how long. Getting peed at the regular connection dropping and their email. I would like to go for one of the cellphone companies, but am worried that that would be like jumping out of the frying pan...

working between Sandton & Soweto -

using it mainly for HTTP and Remote Desktop and in both instances it work fine.

My biggest gripe is their DNS's - at times i think of sending them to strekfontein.

Two more months and iBurst is gone!

I'm enjoying the ADSL 4meg line. The lack of mobility is not nice though, But I'm getting a work sponsored VC 3G card to sort out that problem.

[Disclaimer]If you have a wireless network connected to your terminal, secure that first, and check your logs. It may be your friendly neighbour...[/Disclaimer]

Or NOT so friendly neighbour.....
so like after being sick for the entire weekend I decided to mess around with my dsl and my wireless to iburst... hid both connections and messed around with more security settings... looks like it was my room-mate's laptop that was the culprit, trojans galore! ate thru 3gigs of data for no apprent reason :(

Anyhow back to Iburst and DSL...

I can't comprehend, in COD4 my ping is around 90-100 whilst on a 384 dsl my ping is at 30-40... how's that possible? Do I kill the devil I know and go with the devil thought I knew?

Im deserting iBurst once I can get my contract cancelled. They wont process my cancellation form that they have had for the past 36 days till my contract expires, which is tomorrow. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=128213You can see for more info on more iCrap shiftyness.
well if you had cancelled last month you would have to pay the diff outstanding from your contract... so might as well use and abuse before your contract ends... and that way you get to keep a paper weight without paying for a service you don't use... unless that service just doesn't work...

Confusion in the iBurst ranks, apparently my contract will be cancelled now at the end of July.

apparently my contract will be cancelled now at the end of July.

Don't bank on that, rather call them again closer to the end of July to confirm as they have a nasty way of "finding" unpayed amounts from the previous year which will delay the cancellation.

Was just thinking the same thing

If i bypass their proxy (vpn) it works quite well, haven't had problems since the load shedding.

BTW on the vpn, youtube loads at full speed, while on their proxy it crawls at 20KB/sec if you lucky

I use a web based torrent downloader on my server over sea's and then pull it across http at full speed

Agreed, best to use alternative DNS settings:
In Cape Town: wbs-ip-dns-4.saix.net 196.43.34.190 use Open DNS as secondary
In Joburg: cache02.ns.iafrica.com 196.7.142.132 Open DNS as secondary

Alternatively;

Verizon DNS:
Primary : 196.7.0.138 - Cape Town
Secondary : 196.7.142.132 - Joburg

Internet Solutions DNS:
Primary : 168.210.2.2
Secondary : 196.14.239.2

Open DNS:
Primary : 208.67.222.222
Secondary : 208.67.220.220

AfriNic DNS:
Primary : 168.210.2.2
Secondary : 196.41.0.10

What VPN do you use? It doesn't matter to me anymore of course as I am using the ADSL at work for the time being until I can get my own

Well I'm still with iBurp and never really had much problems. In fact I moved recently and it's the first time since I had iBurp that I do not need an antenna. I downloaded a 700 meg torrent in one night  :D. First time.

My VPN connections are stable and quick, albeit I only do VPN over the weekends and during week nights.

But I don't think I will be renewing my contract again. Still a time to go until the contract is up anyways. So for the time being I am, probably the 5 in the country, happy so far with iBurp.

Well yes, we all know that with a VPN iBurps will download torrents at full speed. The problem is I am tired of battling with VPN's because I've had the carpet yanked out from beneath me before. I presume you're VPN-ing to the line at your office?

For normal e-mail and web browsing iBurps is fine, most of the time. For anything else you'd be better off with ADSL
