You obviously do not overclock :)

Your power supply at 80% efficiency suddenly only runs at only 360W (lucky if Aopen comes close to 80% for long) any slight change in power and your system is fried.

Aopen only says "High efficiency" where all decent international brands give a percentage even if only 80%, so i am being kind giving Aopen 80% :p

You're absolutely right - I don't overclock, but let's say I wanted to. I'm getting a C2D E6300 - can I overclock it to 2.1GHz without frying anything if I have a 500W power supply and the following setup?

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to, though you must make sure that it's stable first with rigorous testing.

OCing your CPU won't put that much extra demand on your PSU, at this stage it's probably more to do with how stable the current is than how much juice you've got less to suck. :)

The way our country's powerplants are performing, stability is out of the question, even with a good PSU, unfortunately. Thanks for the advice. ;)

Not to sure how overclockable the Lemont is, Intel boards as a rule are not very overclocking friendly (apart from the 2 badaxes).
Power supply should be fine

In a year or so I'll probably go quad and give my fiance my E6600 and build her a rig with that :D

I h8 it, do mainly 3d studio max rendering with it and i am lucky if it renders a frame 3 seconds faster than my [email protected] used to do, also multi tasking is very slow, sometimes the system hangs for ages when switching between programs.

It is easy to overclock, presently running at 3.2 with no changes to bios apart from the multiplier 12*266 all voltages stock. Temps 42 idle and all cores between 51 and 61 full load (basic water cooling being used).

Just wish i knew how they benched it for Max, it should be way faster than it is for rendering (should have saved the 9k and bought some more E6600's or a better gpu)

Overall it is all hype nothing special (thinking of going back to single core for a gaming rig)
