Have any cricketers ever been sent off?

I can't find any such cases, but I know that it is possible. I know Swann was once sent off but that was instructed by Strauss to prevent him from being injured from a free-hit while fielding at short-leg.

Other than that I can't recall or find anything relating to a cricketer being sent off for their conduct...

There is no provision in the Laws of Cricket for the ejection of a player from the field of play.

I can personally recount two incidents where a player was chased from a field....

Pretty sure there are. 3 warnings and you're gone as far as I can recall...

EDIT: yup, just confirmed by the commentators in the Proteas game. 2 warnings, then you're off...

Nope. As a bowler you may no longer bowl but you remain on the field. As a batsman your side can be docked 5 penalty runs each time.

Incident one:
League match... youngster batting for the opposition. Not a bad player and was frustrating us as we were on the brink of winning the game. Chirps were flying. Skipper brought back our opening bowler and things got ugly. Pinned him a few times. Batsman's father was watching... he started chirping and the fielder closest to him (fine leg) responded with a few classics. Father proceeded to fetch his pistol from his car... fine leg started running!!! Match abandoned and we were awarded points.

I still think that's the single worst piece of sportsmanship that I've ever seen...

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/451647-Most-unsportsmanlike-moment-in-sporting-history

I've read a few comments in that read and a lot of people say both Suarez and Maradona's incidents were unsportsmanlike. I don't know, take Suarez incident for example, the guy saw an opportunity to save his team and took it. He was punished by getting sent off and Ghana had a penalty that was missed. I say it's not unsportsmanlike because he knew there would be consequences to his actions, and took it.

Now biting a player, that's a different story...

Guys, this is the "cricketers sent off thread". The sportsmanship thread is the other one.

Although with zero cricketers sent off you might as well go moggy with this thread...:D

I've been carried off... top edged a hook, cracked cheek bone!

Schoolboy cricket, Fielding at silly mid-on, full blooded drive, on the chin, lights out ( no helmets in those days)

Was very fortunate it didn't hit me in the mouth or Adam's apple....
