We know someone who made a few hundred thousand through Louis Lievenberg's scheme.

Lost money on Steinhof. Does that count?

Almost got scammed by Facebook ad the other day. They clone web pages of reputable shops and if you don't concentrate...

I suspect probably a third of ads I see on Facebook is a scam. What I have seen Impersonating Game/Makro/Afriforum for some reason/Temu/.. And good luck Facebook taking it down even if you report it. Less than of my reports are confirmed the rest comes back "no issue found".

Scammed by FNB that if I opened a fixed deposit when opening a current account I wouldn't be charged fees on the current account. Total lies by the FNB agent - couldn't even get all my money back!

Not in a big way. I got the classic steal-your-airtime call at the end of a long day's driving. The scammer got away with about R10 in airtime.

Yes, I got your R5000 deposit, thank you very much. Unfortunately, the minimum investment has changed from R5000 to R10000 overnight, due to unforseen circumstances. Sorry about this, but as stated in the T&C's there are no refunds. Please let me know if you interested in paying an extra 5k or whether you will forfeit the 5k. Kindest regards from your local and trusted diamond investor Louis.

Have you ever been scammed?

If so, tell us your story.
If you live in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town or the Atlantic Seaboard, you must surely have come across the Kumar scamsters. The first method they used was to park their car or bike next to the road and get out and stand there. It wasn't long before a Good Samaritan stopped and offered help. It was usually a couple of hundred to get to Wellington because the kids are all at home waiting for them and they've run out of fuel.

In Sea Point/Greenpoint area I would often come across her "stranded" and walking down the road to get fuel while he waited with the bike. Of course you never saw him. I got wise to this one when I saw her run out of fuel in the same spot almost every day.

The one that caught me was the car full of little kids standing at the fuel station while dad stands outside fretting and looking up and down the road. I should have clicked when he said the kids were hungry and needed to get home but he had lost his wallet and home was Wellington. It only clicked when a week or so later I was given the same story at the same garage with a different lot of hired children.
