I can save about R600 on a Radeon 6870 if I buy it from Amazon. Is it worth while?

btw graphics card are expensive in SA! I could never afford a GTX 570 or HD 6970. They're selling for more than my medical aid costs me a year. Holy markup prices yeah?

Also I can get brands on Amazon that don't retail in SA, like HIS, Sapphire, XFX good quality brands and also cheap. Don't know why they are not sold here.

But I really feel like buying a gaming pc in SA is a losing battle man, just sooo expensive for a third world salary.

How are you going to get it here, exactly?

Also, if the brands are not available here, what are you going to do about warranty, send it back to the states?

It is easy enough to buy and import from Amazon, the issue is warranty, that becomes a bitch and shipping out of SA back to the US and back again is damn expensive and a customs nightmare...

All I get from Amazon these days is, we don't ship to your country..... What's up with that?

Import rights.
Like Apple, Canon, etc products are imported exclusively by a certain company, therefore you aren't allowed to import those products via Amazon, etc.

Import rights fair enough ... need to "protect" businesses with a local footprint but what about brands we've never even heard of? Surely that must influence their bottom line at the end of the day?

Generally Amazon (both .com and co.uk) only ship dvd's, cd's, books, kindles to our country. Tech-toys, cameras and hardware etc is a no-no for them. The Kindle is an exception.

The only way to get things like graphics cards etc is through a US reshipper or someone like wantitall or perhaps even takealot.com (if they do hardware) - not sure.

Volumes here are frankly insignificant to them in the greater scheme of things.

+1

Amazon won't ship a graphics card directly to ZA: you will need to go through myus.com (or similar)

Takealot do handle some electronic equipment, but after their mark-up it's moot if the saving is worth the risk of more-or-less losing the warranty.

I agree with what you are saying, I cannot order PC cases, PSU's or CPU's from Amazon, but I can order any GPU from them.

Yes, We use Amazon a lot. Its a great company.

Now that is just ****ing retarded from them ... I've just added various electronic components (only for ****s and giggles) and everything except the Kindle Fire and the stupid power adapter ships to SA.

I checked out that Harman Kardon receiver over the weekend and it definitely moaned about my address when I tried to checkout ... today it seems fine, goes all to way to checkout (total equals $511 incl shipping & import fees which is less than half locally btw)

I'm confused to say the least ... Maybe there is some sort of glitch in their filters and we should make use of the opportunity while we still can :p
