has anyone ordered more than 3 times this year? I thought SARS will require an import code but some people are saying that's not the case

Ordered a shirt, pants, cushion covers, canvas bag, fake plants and a whole bunch of other stuff totalling R964 and my duties came to R119.

No idea how they calculate this because VAT alone should have been R144.

The importer code thing is beyond stupid. It should be done away with. You import, you pay the duty and vat and you get your item. It's just a silly anally retentive way of keeping previously the English in line, as who else had parcels from overseas, and now is just meaningless in the era of the internet, especially as BRICS partners and SA's creditors US and China both enjoy internet exports.

Do remember. If you want to pay cheap, the Chinese will give you cheap. If you want to pay more, the quality will get better. Both the Louis Vuitton and fakes generally comes from the same place. Just depends how much you are willing to pay. A lot of people want cheap everything locally, so the Chinese bring in the cheap stuff. But when you are there, you will notice the quality difference. A lot of SE Asian has both the good and the fake. Depends how much you want to spend. I had an aunt that would buy the designer originals, but when she went out, she would wear 1st grade fakes. Why? The designer original will be kept as new and on display at her house. The fake was for everyday. She said simply 99% of her friends wouldnt know the difference between the fake and the real one. So unless you buy it as an investment, dont buy the original.

Generally people in SA are cheap. They dont worry about specific designer items. They want to pay next for nothing for something. Compared to in SE Asia, where the more you pay the more your status. They will even wear pricetags to show off how much it cost them. I know its taken a while for a few friends to change their mindsets about that. Now they love how cheap they can buy an expensive item, compared to frowning if it was on a discount.

Yawn

1st time ordering from Temu, is there a 1st time discount coupon that I can use?

Got my first delivery on the way, some of their prices seem weirdly super cheap, so ordered a few of the "suspect" items as well as stuff i actually need, keen to see how it pans out

Some pricing is also weird.
The colour of an item sometimes changes the price massively and I've also seen cases where quantities ordered has a negative effect on unit price
