Hello there all,

I am sure there must be a simple answer to this but I cannot for the life of me work it out.

At home, I am using a Nokia 5610 Xpress Music (3G enables). When I surf the web on the phone it's fine and connects with 3G.

However, with Nokia PC suite it cannot connect to the internet as PC Suite says that there is no modem detected....

Also, Been browsing the vodacom site, and I cannot find any vodacom application (VMC) when using a 3G phone, they have plents of applications for the various modems but nothig for the phone iteself.

When I go into device manager Vista (home premium 64) says the phone is fine and shows it working perfectly under the "modem" heading.

Is there anything I have done wrong here? What am I missing? I presume that all I need is the vodacom software to connect but cannot find one that supports a 3G enabled phone.

don't use PC suite.

Nokia 5610 needs to be in USB PC Suite mode.

I used all the files listed above and get great speeds with Nokia 3G phone:

Vodacom has got info about this, but it's lacking in real info in comparison to Vodafone. They also offer download, but's it's older version that Vodafine link I gave you.
See Vodacom stuff here: http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/via_the_phone/get.jsp

enjoy!

Thank you gamer! I'll give it a bash and let you know. It's looks very comprehensive!

Sorry if I over complicated the process, I did so for the sake of thoroughness.
All you really need is the software installed that you download. Connect your phone (possibly after a reboot) and give it a few seconds and the software will auto load/start, detect the phone and you're a-for-away.
Good luck.

Actually its a very easy process. If you know your way around Windows, you can do it in under 5 minutes.

Under the modem in Device Manager, open the Properties then go to Advanced. In the 'Extra Initialization String' box enter AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" , then OK and then close Device Manager.

Next all you need to do is create a new Dial-Up connection in Windows with the number to dial as *99# .

Works like a charm.

Thanks to both of you for the help. When I get home this evening I'll give it a shot.

I have downloaded all the prerequisite software, thanks for the links gamer. Iam3G, I'll give your trick a shot first and see what happens. It just seems too good to be true ;)

Aahhh, you learn something new everyday. Thanks Iam3G for the tip :)
I'm installed and running with the vodafone software which I am now used to so probably won't use this method, but have bookmarked it anyway for future.

OK, I am now up and connected! Finally! Phew!

Iam3G, I tried your way first, unfortunately it did not yield the results. However, i think this was probably because I neglected to do something at my side. In the end it wouldn't connect because it couldn't verify a unername and password (which it asks for when setting up a dial up connection).

Gamer, I did the install and it took quite a while but after that was perfect. I did expect better speeds to be honest, but i think that's because now every program in creation on my PC was updating itself. LOL. Also, I only realised an hour later that the phone only connected with EDGE not 3G, so i disconnected and re-connected and it was all good...

Thanks alot to both of you for your help. Much appreciated. :)
