“The Hawks have become a major nemesis to criminals in and around South Africa,” Mthethwa said in Cape Town, urging the unit to carry on doing a great job.

In its short existence, the unit had finalised 27,412 of the cases investigated and achieved a conviction rate of 29,1 percent, he said.

Mthethwa said the SBV security report also indicated that, in the first four months of the year attempted cash-in-transit heists dropped by 29 percent.

He said the Hawks had arrested 28 of the country’s 50 most wanted criminals.

He said that of the 8186 people being investigated for commercial crime 122 were arrested by the now defunct Scorpions (Directorate of Special Operations).

Mthethwa described it as encouraging that none of the cases transferred to the Hawks by the Scorpions had been dropped.

...and the DA had nothing to do with it...

This news is too positive for this site! You need to post a stories of crime/corruption before people will accept you here.

In his world it makes sense.

Good on the hawks.

I just wish they had an impact on the corrupt ANC officials that are given stars by the Puppet and his master for stealing more of the poor people.

But Hey no lets not prosecute them just transfer them to where there are more money!!

And the DA had nothing to do whit that too.

That's an awful lot of cases in a very short time!
How many people work there?

 Good God how long have they been operating? I also want to know how many people work there, must be 100's surely maybe even a few thousand.

So 100 - 60 = 40 :D or i am i missing something as usual.
The Hawks brought down the number of cash-in-transit heists by 60 percent in the first four months of 2010

The police have on more than one occasion accused the Hawks of taking credit for police work. Remember that the Hawks were taking credit for arrests even before signing up any members to the unit. The government and ANC do of course have interest in making the Hawks appearing to be doing well because then they can justify disbanding the Scorpions on the grounds that the Scorpions spent too much time politicking and not going after real criminals.

Why don't you work on your post count a bit more before you start telling us what is acceptable on this site! :D

He's right, but I see he forgot to observe the fact that the OP should probably in addition to posting "another farm murder", "more ANC corruption" & crime also refrain from posting articles that cast Israel in a negative for your own personal benefit, huh Gary?:D

Geez, the Hawks better not become too successful - otherwise they'll get shut down!

A conviction rate of 29% :wtf: There's a 71% of getting away with a crime after you're arrested and they prosecute?

Well this was on that massive number of cases, mostly old ones I assume. They're clearing the backlog more than anything else.
