Hayibo.com closing down

I did not really care for hayibo as well. And as with Jungleboy, I'm not a fan of Zapiro either...

Yay, finally no more of stupid posting their stories in C.A.

Can't say they're rubbish or crap or anything like that, just fraking hated their stories being posted in Current Affiars.

That REALLY used to p!ss me off.

I see Hayibo sells a t-shirt with the word "mlungu" on the front.

A question for the people who speak the relevant language: what does the word mlungu mean? I am referring to the PROPER meaning/translation.

Is it derogatory or merely descriptive?

Probably descriptive.

You are now going to get responses saying it's the same as the K word and means white scum :rolleyes:

I know.

I asked for the opinion of someone who is knowledgeable about the meaning in the relevant language.

In Xhosa,

umlungu = a white person
isilungu = english language

lungu = joint of the body
amalungu = plural of lungu meaning joints of the body
ubulungu = membership

What about the other explanation that umlungu means 'froth of the sea' as in the white part of the sea where the waves crash onto the beach ?

I don't find the term offensive... often little kids call me umlungu so it can't be that bad.

I think words are offensive as you want them to be.

I've heard of that explanation and i've also heard umlungu means "father of light" meaning "a white man with missionary vision".

However, since you asked for the relevant language meaning, in Xhosa, all the words above have "lungu" in them because they all derived from it.
