HD is just hype...

The whole idea with HD is that you can have a bigger screen without loss in picture quality from the same viewing distance.

If you increase the size of the screen, the number of pixels must increase to keep the image quality the same. Its all about pixel density.

In many cases HD is a waste - if you have small screen or sit far away.

Nobody said they didn't like it. The point was just that, yes, it's clear. But so what? Life is crystal clear but you don't see people buying glasses and then raving on and on about how crisp the edges around them are.

The point is that although the picture quality is awesome, right now, is it REALLY that impactive on your life to justify the expense? For some people, yes. For others, no.
Allow the man his opinion, for crying out loud.
 
Yeah I agree guys... But the majority of TV stations are SD anyways...

Watching one or two movies in HD isn't ALLLLLL that. I've hooked it up properly... HDMI cable, Digital out sound (something like that) etc...

Maybe I just went over board spending wise... That's why I feel like this.
 
Some of the SD channels are pretty good as well.

I was watching Sky News last night, the SD on that channel is sometimes as good as the HD on the HD channels.

Just depends on the source material.

as mentioned before, i also think that is the problem.

just be happy with the fact that you have enough cash to afford a 50 inch Sony LED Display.
 
If HD is hype, then I suppose any new technology is just hype then... For example why buy a new PC - the old one will still work just be slower... what was wrong with the CRT on your old PC? Etc, etc... Why buy a new cellphone... they old one can still make calls and send sms...
 
HD is not just hype... it's so good that it is becoming "the norm"...
hence .. not "hype"

Perhaps you may not be impressed by the picture quality, but then perhaps your eyes are not suited for the finer things in life... I dont know..
but to call it hype, when clearly t is much more than that, is simply ignorant...

yeah +10 I have 42" LCD etc so nowhere near the cost of yours and I am more than happy with it maybe you were just expecting more bang for your bucks !

The flaw in your logic is that for the foreseeable future, you can live happily with the television technology you currently have without being forced to upgrade to HD.
You buy a new PC because if it's not already too outdated to play the latest games, it will be soon. If you want to continue playing every new game that comes out, you have no choice but to upgrade.
Likewise, new cellphones come out with new technology that would make your life difficult to live without. An example will be 4G.
CRT displays have faded out because more recent graphic cards no longer have the connectors for CRT, thereby forcing you to replace it.
However, I think it's more than safe to assume that regardless of the viewing technology you own, it's going to be MANY years before you suddenly find out that you cannot watch anything because you're forced to have HD.
 
HS made my eyes bleed. If you seriously think its just a hype, your over 90 and you eyes can't discern the 3piC oRSUMzzz PiXXelzz

Demon, of course I will call it hype... TV manufactureres are businesses... I too am a businessman. You will dress up your product in any way to make it look good. Bernard Arnauld (CEO of LouisVuittonMoetHennessy) said it best, when he said he has the toughest job in the world, whereby he has to sell products that no one needs, and make them feel like they do.

Nothing ignorant about my statement dear sir. Please tell me what aspect of your life changed when you moved from SD to HD? Of course HD will be hyped up, otherwise people wouldn't bother buying into it. This has nothing to do with whether my eye has a taste for finer things or not. I can comfortably afford most expensive things, and me not liking certain things has got nothing to do with my judgement.

No one needs HD, hell, a CRT is also fine... You've just been duped by society and all, into thinking that "HD will be the norm" as you aptly put it.

I don't define my life by the things I have, and the money I have... yeah, great, my friends go "ooh, and aah" when they come over to my house. It doesn't change anything in my life.

So ask you to respect my opinion, and keep narrow minded statements like you've just made to yourself... I think you might be the ignorant one!

+1 and I mine was just 720P. Awesome.

It's not a revolution per se, but TV in HD just looks better. Period. It's called progression and it's thundering forward in its inevitable way. Viva technology! :)

Having said that, if you don't like it, cool also. /shrugs

Well, the floor in your logic is that for the foreseeable future, you can live happily with the cellphone you currently have without being force to upgrade your cellphone.

With regards to the PC... most older games still run on an older PC, just at a lower res with low details settings. Gaming is just one area that PCs are used for... loads of people still have old PCs and they can go online, type emails,etc no problem.

With regards to CRT... the technology moved on... that will happen with TVs too... one day you'll only have a digital interface like HDMI on your decoder, so your old CRT TV won't work. But that is still a long time away.

However, regardless of cellphone technology, it is going to be MANY years before you suddenly can't use you old cellphone and are forced to have a new one.

So you are saying that HD is more of a hype that other new technology... well that is obviously different for each individual. Some people can like with standard def, some people can live with an old PC, cellphone, etc. It takes a long time in all cases for people to be forced to upgrade.

This points me to the conclusion that you dont really know what you are doing. Did you set it up yourself? If so I highly doubt that it was done optimaly.

Secondly - you had the opportunity to view the setup in the outlet before purchase I presume? Are you blaming it on the marketing engine that they were able to con you into buying this screen? Why did you buy it otherwise?
 
Never, I just checked out my mate LED tv and I now hate my tv. HD Roland Garros you can see the grains of sand on the female tennis players legs :D

I'm with you on the hype front... yes, technology may become common place in the future but the hype comes in when people are made to feel they need it right now. Look at all other technology, sit back and wait a few months and prices will drop dramatically but no, people need to be the first to get it so they can be better than the Smith's next door.

As for HD, I'm sure it looks very pretty but at the end of the day you are seeing exactly the same movie that I am in SD. You are watching exactly the same sports event. You don't see anything more, of consequence, than I do. Maybe a few more blades of grass but they don't really effect the outcome of the match ;)

I don't need a pro for setup, as there is a manual, and numerous forums on the internet to refer to. I'm very competent in electronics and PC's etc... Hardware wise.

I was not duped into buying it... I walked into Makro, asked for their best TV in their opinion, and they told me about that TV... That or the Samsung. So I bought it. They told me about 3D coming soon, and I told them "just hype, who cares"... It doesn't matter to me. Just another novelty that'll cause clutter once I get over it and don't bother to wear those glasses you need.

I have other LCD's in the house (All Bravia's, HD Ready and one full HD)... I just wanted a big TV to replace my Wega that I've loved so much and still do for 8 years... That's all.
