Can't be SatCR. Could be single cable conversion system. Did you have to put extra frequency settings into your decoder? If not, you don't have full functionality... Try recording Animal Planet, while viewing MNet. Either your viewing or recording channel will fall over in these circumstances.

As far as i can tell everything is working as it should. But I'll try it out this evening and report back. No, i never put any extra settings into the decoder.

Also... anybody else getting the error with series recording.
"Recording cancelled - overruled by higher priority 22"

I just picked it up this morning after setting a series recording schedule.

Ok... Tested it out and you're right. The recording on animal planet cuts off when i switch over to mnet. Is there any way to get this resolved other than forking out R3k?

I live in Alba at Bougain Villas in Century City Cape Town. Does anyone know what sort of setup they have at this complex?

Alba was part of phase 1, I believe. It's still got a 5 cable multiswitch system. For full functionality, you would need a second feed from the backbone... Alternatively, the body corp needs to have the system upgraded.

Other parts of Bougain Villas have a single cable conversion system. This gives you full functionality from a single cable (with added decoder settings). This is only in the blocks to the right of the entrance.

I suspect getting a second feed from the backbone would be easier than convincing the bc to upgrade the existing system.

Any idea on the cost involved to get this done, and a contact that would be able to do it?

I don't know what the cost will be. Depends if there is a spare port on the existing switches, or if the have to add another switch to the backbone. Also depends on the cable route, length etc. You can call Craig @ 082 376 6008. I think he still looks after that block...

Thanks so much quantum for all the assistance. I'll give Craig a shout.

Really appreciate it. :)

hi all

i know this is a really long shot but have no alternative way to find out.

im moving from one complex to another...the one im leaving is twin LNB...the new complex is single LNB (i only found this out on friday)

now the new complex is actually newer....building work finished about 2-3 years ago i believe.

what are the chances that the single LNB is SATCR? (i have researched this morning that this is the only way will have full funtionality? - what do i need to make my HD PVR 2P work if indeed it is a satCR?

the complex is citadel constantiaberg, cape town by the way...anyone know anyone who did the installation of the communal DSTV on that??

thanks in advance for any feedback you can give

You do NOT get SatCR in communal setups. There is a way to get full functionality of a single cable. It is called an IF converter system and requires additional setting to be put into the decoder. You need to speak with management, BC or other people in the complex to find out if this is the case. Otherwise, PM me and I will refer you to an installer who can help (if you have the BC's permission)

The complex definately does not have SATCR, will send you a PM with details

How do you know what details to send? It depends on the install. He first has to find out what kind of installation they have (unless you know Citadel), otherwise you might confuse the guy.

And after days of searching and fighting I finally found your post. THANK YOU SIR :)
I am in the crappy situation where the bloody Bodycorp of the complex has a deal with Elsat rentals, and no one is allowed to install their own dishes.
the most annoying part of this is , If you want one cable, it R72 a month, if you want 2 it is R152 a month, and this is all separate from your normal DSTV subscription.
and just as i suspected there is a way, and so yet again, thank you very much for posting.

Hi there, I have tried with these splitters and a elsat combiner, but it just does not want to work, how can i get this decoder to work with a single lnb.
image_big_20969397.jpg

yes i know it is a dual view, but i also am not allowed to put a dual lnb, so if i can just record it would be great, and obviously watch all the channels.

thank you

PVR decoder

Hi there, can someone help, I have just got a hd pvr as a present & found out that to install it properly will cost about R1500.00 to have the other cable installed. I see that there have been posts made about just splitting the cabe with splitter box - does this work? I would like to record cbb's, top gear & other channels

on single lnb setup the recording doesnt work very well unless the chanel you are watching is on the same polarisation as the chanel you are recodring.
you can do a DIY upgrade for about R500 its prety simple just swop out the single lnb for a twin and run the extra cables

Edit - I forgot to ask do yo uhave dstv already and is it single view or do you have a pvr?

Hi, I have dstv already - single view.

okay quick diy upgrade , you need to buy a twin lnb and cables they are avalible at most stores Game makro Pnp hyper etc, prices of twin lnb around R500.
basicaly you need to mark where your curent lnb is place take not of the angle it is placed at in relation to the dish mark this and place the new lnb exactly where your old one was.then run a second cable from the lnb to your tv room (you can change the one thats there already if you want but if its still in good condition leave it.you now have 2 cables
then to test just each cable on your curent dstv decoder to see if you geting signal.
then just call dstv to conect you r new decoder plug in the 2 lnb cables into the decoder and bobs your uncel.
if you want extraview (if your old decoder is a dsd 1100 or 1132)you will need to but a multi switch (2 into 4) that goes for about R300 you plug the 2 lnb cables into that and 2 cbables out of that goes into your pve and 1 cable goes into your old decoder, then you need to run a heart beat cable from the pvr to the dsd.

its quite easy ive done it a few times already

wow - that sounds easy enough but the only problem is is that I am in a block of flats (& female & not very technically advanced ;-)) - not a very big block but we do share a dish (I think there are 4flats per dish) Would I be able to change the lnb and then re connect the other cables?

oh no :( if you in a complex like that check with you Body corporate if they have network setting then you just have to conect your decoder to the one cable and put those setting in , if not then the expensive option is to get a full new install if they allow you to have your own dish Pm Quantum Theory he normaly knows alot about of the complexs set ups

And why is it most (not all thoigh)females somehow automaticaly asume they not capabale?

lol - I am sure I could do it, but have visions of blowing up the pvr :)

I saw on an earlier post that someone put a splitter on there cable that ran into the house and then joined up the pvr that way - is that possible ??
