Thanks very much for this post and all the info, I'm stuck in a similar position:
I live in a complex where I can't put up my own satellite and I have just one cable from the wall. My old old old decoder conked out last night and I need a new setup for the WC, since I have an HDTV I really would like HD even if the PVR functionality suffers.

Quick question: where do I get my hands on the HD PVR 2P?

I can confirm that the single LNB cable setup works perfectly. Bought one yesterday and can get every channel including HD. The only two functions lacking is the record function and the TV Guide does not go beyond the first two shows.

Otherwise, perfect for what I require.

not a big loss, half the time on my hd it takes a while to update past the second show.

Have a look at the splitter set up (set up 2, first page) for full TV guide functionality. It shouldn't cost you more than R100 and no dual lnb is needed. Some recording should also be possible but I have to do some more testing.

signal splitter cost R30 from hi-fi corp and x2 'f' connectors..(the part that screws into the decoders) costs R20....R50...

Thanks for all the heads up guys. Was just looking at getting the Big Daddy next in time for the SWC. Is R1999 the best price at the moment and only available at Hifi Corp? Currently got normal 1110 dec with xtraview, just want to upgrade to HD, am i correct in saying that i just need the HD decoder, signal splitter and 2x 'f' connectors?

yes, I had your set up. Bought the new baby HD PVR on Friday evening, called multichoice to break connection between the two 1110 decoders...the guy told me to get the HD PVR ready with the 1110 decoder I wanted to keep. Took the lnb than ran into the 'main' SD decoder and connected it to Satellite 1 on the HD decoder and the heartbeat cable to RF in on the HD decoder. I did not touch the secondary decoder AT ALL. Then I wrote down the smartcard numbers of the HD decoder and the SD decoder I planned to keep in the xtraview setup. He then enabled the signal for the two decoders. It worked, but I still have to get the decoder to upgrade for the xtraview setup to work properly...

Thanks so much for the info. I'm currently sitting back trying to decide if I should go TopTV or DSTV and this guide makes DSTV sound a bit more reasonable again. If it was for the BBC programming (yes we must be the only ones in SA that watch it) and SuperSport, I wouldn't even consider DSTV at all. ARRRGGG

Actually I think I should take my thanks back.. LOL this thread just made my choice harder :(

Are you sure it is not your connection/dish. Check your signal strength on input 2. Maybe there is an issue there? It seems to work fine for most other people

Lol, DSTV is still expensive but if you want sport and HD you don't have a choice. I would love to go TOPTV but I refuse to watch sport on SABC. And soccer in HD is just brilliant. And I am sure it will be another year at least before TopTV will bring out HD. If you don't need HD or sport go Top by all means though!
