That is what HD Ready means if using HDMI the it runs HD.

My 32" Sony Bravia is HD Ready with only 1 x HDMI port.

PS3 connected with HDMI runs 1080i in menu.
Blue Ray disk runs 1080p.
All my games are 720p only and only run 720p.
Don't have any 1080 games yet only a few games.

If my PC connected via VGA the highest it can go is 720p.

Confusing conundrum? Are you suggesting that the HD ready TV displays 1080p? Are you sure it's not displaying the input signal but still scale it down to its native resolution, Hmmm?

I'l be damned!

As a matter of interest, the Blu-Ray does not play in native 1080p but is instead upscaled by the TV itself. (In the case of an HD-Ready TV.)

Although the Blu-Ray disc/player is capable of 1080p output, your TV isn't capable of actually showing it like that so it upscales it from 720p to 1080p.

The BluRay disk maybe runs 1080p but the display only presents its native resolution NOT 1080p.

Well if its upscaled then by the TV, the Bravia engine makes it look good.
Might be wrong then.

I can't believe I'm in agreement with IAP :p

HD Ready TV can only display 720p content. By the laws of physics, it can't display 1080i/1080p.

It's like saying that your car can take jet fuel as input, and then go at > 1000km/h.

Put 1080i/1080p content over HDMI into an HD Ready TV, and the picture will be downscaled to 720p.

It'll still look extremely good, because downscaling is inherently cleaner than upscaling.

I'm sure that HD ready tv can display 1080i - mine does - it only runs most PS3 stuff at 720p - although that being said - 1080i and 720 p are pretty much the same thing.

I connect my xBox to my Samsung HD Ready Plasma, i go to the xBox settings and out of the 4 possible options (480, 720, 1080i and 1080p) i select 1080p.

The game plays perfectly, crystal crisp picture.

Are you saying that i'm actually only getting 720 ? :crying:

Many HD-Ready devices are capable of 1080i but none are capable of native 1080p.
So at most what is happening is that your TV is displaying at either 720p or at 1080i.
Either way, the fact that you say it's a crystal clear and crisp image and you were unaware that it wasn't true 1080p is a good argument for why it's not really necessary to go Full HD just yet.
