Why are you harping on about my interpretation?
720p is defined as a 16:9 aspect ratio resolution.. and since you're talking 720 vertical lines, you will need 1280 horizontal lines to display in the correct aspect ratio...
There is no interpretation on this one at all.
I agree, if you are talking about the aspect ratio of source material (which must assume square pixels).
There are just different interpretations of what a 16:9 aspect ratio can mean in different situations...
I was referring to your interpretation of 16:9 aspect ratio from a previous post - you say that, with reference to HDTV, aspect ratio is always the ratio between the vertical and horizontal pixels - i.e. a 16:9 native resolution. Your interpretation is correct, but not the only interpretation...
Another interpretation of aspect ratio is the ratio of the dimensions of the viewable area of the screen.
