HD Ready Plasma versus Full HD LCD

Enjoying my LG 42" plasma hd ready. Bought it last year for 7k(score!) , one of my deciding factors that i didnt want to struggle with dead pixels. My pc basically runs 1080p.mkv rips to it, and its freakin gorgeous.. I think you need to think about it long term, what will give constant quality picture for the next few years. for movies, and thats pretty much all i watch, go for a plasma.

this is all mind boggling...when i read on the forum i get the plasma loud and clear..but as soon as i step into a shop they are pushing their bloddy LCD's! when my wife asks which one i'm gonna get i'm like, uhmmm! i'm going to be watching normal DSTV, gaming, and movies. ive read that plasma is good for normal DSTV but then nothing compares to full HD ps3 gaming on a LCD. i also understand from what i have read that HD ready can play the full HD depending on the resolution.

can i play the ps3 on the hd ready plasma? i definately do not want that burn in i have been reading about!

Wow you guys have been a phenominal help!

Im going to go with plasma!

Now on to brands

Would you go LG or Samsung?

The 42" LG Retails for R 6,999.00
42" Samsung @ R 7,499.00

The specs on the LG seems a bit better (as is the warrantee), but the sammy looks to be a bit better made?

Any preferences?

Yes, I do, that works great ! As long as the plasma has an HDMI port with HDCP, else you need an adapter.

I have a sammy and quite happy with it. Would definitely buy samsung. Dont think I will ever buy LG.

90% of PS3 games are 720 in any case. So yes. Burn in is if you totally abuse your screen, for hundreds of hours. You will get pixel charge, which goes away quickly. Don't even stress about it, or even think about IR! it's not serious.

Samsung should still carry their 3 year warranty. It was on promotion, but became standard issue. Earlier this year.

5. For 8K, you can shop hard and get a 50" plasma for about that price.

Been shopping around for 50" sammy, best price i get is R9,5k....(Cats, Digital Xperience, Makro's, and Hifi Corp)
Where else can i look?

Thanks

Just my two cents worth: I have a Samsung 50" and a Yamaha Hometheatre system with Wharfedale Diamond 10 speakers.
Have also gone through the whole business of research and asking questions. I gathered the following:
Below 50" not much difference between HD ready and full HD because of the spacing of the pixels (With full HD pixels more concentrated on a bigger screen.)
I went for the Samsung because of reviews I saw on the Internet. Have not been sorry.
I went for full HD because the Yamaha RXV 765 scales up to full HD, so why buy HD ready?
Even ordinary DVDs look very good when played on a Blueray player.

try game, weekly specials also pricebeat is brilliant to take advantage of.. then tafelberg furnishers.. that about it

Got my hd ready 42 c450 Samsung at tafelberg last weekend. Negotiated a good deal.

Hi Guys just a quick update.

I went shopping for the panel today. I looked at a bucketload of different sets.

Out of all the sets I viewed just two caught my attention:

The samsung 42c450 and the
42" Panasonic Viera (42c10)

None of the LG plasma's I viewed came close to any of the above sets. And between the two sets above, the Panasonic is a notch better (but R 1.5k more expensive and the frame is but ugly!).

The panasonic is a truly amazing panel, the had the viera side by side with R20k+ sets and I still think the panasonic's picture was better (others were [led]LCD's btw).

Unfortunately most shops either didn't have stock (with the exception of the demo model), or were way overpriced.

I'm going to try my luck this week as more stock should be coming in.

Just be careful of in-store settings. Sometimes the suppliers optimise them, other times it is the salesmen who give it a go, and fail miserably. I almost got put off getting my 43B430 plasma because it was so grey, when compared to the screens around it, in one of the stores. A few visits to other stores made me realise they obviously had screwed up the settings.

How much are you looking at for that 42C450? I know it is next generation and with it being 450 it has an extra HDMI when compared to my 430 but I got mine on special at under R6000 a month or so back.

The 450 varied from store to store; from about R 7.5k up to R 11k at one store (srsly!).

The 430 can be had from next week from cats digital for R 6.5k. That is the best I got on the 430.

What are the major differences between the C430 and C450 (except the extra HDMI offcourse) ?

Are you sure you are comparing the 42C430 to the 42C450 or is it the 42B430? The latter is the one I got and apparently the B shows it to be an older model.

Here is a comparison between the 42B430 and the 42C450. It seems to just be connectivity that differs. I can't be certain about "engines" etc. They tend to always claim these are different to get sales of the newer models.

http://www.plasma-lcd-crt.com/compares/samsung_ps-42c450_vs_samsung_ps-42b430

Connectors type
B430 : 1 x AV, 2 x audio, 1 x Component video, 1 x SCART, 1 x RGB, 2 x HDMI, 1 x USB, 1 x RS-232
C450 : 1 x AV, 3 x audio, 1 x Component video, 1 x SCART, 1 x RGB, 1 x VGA, 3 x HDMI, 1 x USB

From what I understand the main difference between the 42 B30 which I own and the C450 which I am considering buying is as follows.
a)the B430 has no scart connection
b)The B430 does not have a USB connection
c)The B430 has no side connections.

The C450 has side connections (if it makes a difference) plus USB port which plays HD 720i movies from your camera in various formats. The B430 does not have this function nor the C430.The C430 will display still photographs but not movies.Plus is the scart connection which I do not have on my B430.I cannot comment on the picture quality yet however I hope to see it in action in the next week.
