Your camera is an SD camera that uses interpolation to create an "HD" output. It's a marketing gimmick.

If you have a LCD or Plasma TV, the TV would upscale the video in any case. More important than the upscaling in the camera is the output type from the camera. If it has HDMI or component output, you'll be able to get a high quality signal to the TV.

Upscaling is a marketing buzzword myth - you cannot upscale video. But you can output it through better component (eg HDMI) parts, which can dramatically improve the quality.

It only came with an RCA (Red, White, Yellow cable) Connector and USB cable. No sign of HDMI or Component output.

Then there can be no upscaling, as the connections are standard SD cables.

Exactly what I was looking for. So guys you're saying when they advertise a video camera with "HD upscaling," first off, let's say your TV is full HD, will it "upscale" to 1080p, sounds ludicrous, or you have an HD ready TV, to 720p?
Another, since the OP guy says it didn't have an HDMI output/slot it utter BS? So then why do they advertise "HD upscaling" if it doesn't have HD outputs? How would you get HD quality through, as another member here said that, it's only SD (RCA)?

I'm still confused about this subject. I saw my exactly my camera again, 2 weeks ago at Game, also advertised HD Upscaling. So how still have no idea how to make it HD, whether is means 720p or 1080p.

Sorry for going a little off topic, is it possible to reduce the interlace lines of the footage?

I was looking at purchasing a SD video camera, there was one worth R2,699.99 (Samsung) comes with a 16GB SDHC card, tripod and the tag "HD upscaling." But now I'm thinking of shrugging this option, and get a full HD (1920x1080) (HP) video camera, which is R1,999.99, comes with USB (+charging), battery, charger, AV cable, carrying case and an HDMI cable, that's all. Then get an SDHC card - 16GB for R329, that makes R2329.98 + R199 for tripod = R2529.97, works out cheaper than the SD camera . Now I'll mostly do all recording in 720p. I believe this will look good in an SD TV and HD ready.

You can still get the upscaled video off even if you cannot play it back directly to a display. I presume the idea of throwing it in as a feature is so you get some upscaling without using something like Instant HD. Whether it does a better job than your TV is another matter. I doubt it's as good as an offline solution.

Ok, so my camera went about a 5 weeks ago in for repairs at Game (Under Warranty), because it just randomly stopped charging. After 21 days, they are suppose to replace or money back.

Well they gave me a R2799 Voucher which is pretty useful as I can now upgrade to a REAL HD Camera instead, even If I have to pay +-R1500 in.

So, anyone seen any HD Video Camcorders at Game? Preferably Sony with a Built in Hard drive.

In the current advertisment the are two SD video cameras. Go in store and tell us your result! I think you should get 8GB internal + full HD for +-R3699.
