HDD 7% Health

Hi all,

I'm fixing my boss' laptop and diagnostics have reported the HDD to be at 7% health with over 1000 bad sectors on the drive. Figured this is the reason why Windows refuses to install. Now I don't want to incur any unnecessary costs to him or make myself look like an idiot, so is there any way I can try and save this drive without having to replace it? I know it's a long shot.

HOW cheap is your boss? :wtf:
 
Buy a new drive, it's not an unnecessary cost given that this one is failing. Be sure to look at replacing with an SSD depending on space requirements & budget.

Thanks for the suggestion. Now, how certain can I be that it is indeed the HDD that's causing the installation failure? I've tried installing via DVD and a bootable USB, but they both give me the same problems. Stuck at "Copying Files: 0%" and then it returns an error stating that it cannot install on this drive. Drive has been formatted ofc etc. It must be that nice little 7% then? :whistle:

get a working hdd and see if that helps.

Dude, imagine you install windows and everything is fine up until your boss moves all his important files over and the drive fails... Is this really a chance that you want to take?
Get a new drive an install the thing for him, stop worrying about his bank balance to get into his good books. It's not going to help youn in the performance review. :P
 
I recently switched over everything to an SSD... Oh my lawrd your boss will kiss you, it will feel like a new laptop.
 
You can try repair the bad sectors but 7%?

Jirre dude, I won't even put my worst porn on such a drive. It's going to fail pretty soon :D

If you really want to dismiss controller faults, put the hdd in another working pc and scan it again, should produce same/similar results if the drive is kaput.

OP, please plug that HDD into a pc with HD sentinel in it, id love to see the report.
