I have run disc check before and it repaired it. Or so I assumed.

Read up on it now, seems like they are just flagged not to be used again and once done, the HDD shows no bad sectors but only because none are in use. I didn't know that. Thanks :)

The HDD will still show bad sectors. Use a program like HDD Sentinel.

Bad sectors cannot be repaired.
 
In summary - don't blame a messenger!
1. HDD will automatically rellocate bad sectors.
2. However if sector is completely unreadable (repeating UNC), hard drive will postpone relocation till the next write operation. It means that during this time bad sector sector will be visible to the user, giving system errors or crashes at times.
3. In some cases hard drive will not be able to relocate bad sector during write operation. Such sectors can be bypassed.
4. In extreme cases bad sectors will appear, then disappear after write operation, but after couple hours will appear again in different LBA location. Such sectors can not be bypassed.
 
You would look like an idiot after checking it and it fails shortly after...
