Once again, a hearty hello to all you hardware guru's of my bb!

I trust you are all well.

Today, I find myself needing a bigger hdd. Problem is, I'm not sure if it will fit in this Lenovo t400 lappy I have.
I was thinking about a 2.5, 1tb drive, but not sure with the size and all that.
Could you kindly please recommend the largest capacity hdd I can fit in to this lappy?
taking in to consideration that it would fit perfectly?
I really would much appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance,

and have a lovely day!

AFAIK you can use any capacity sata hdd with 2.5 inch form factor and 9.5 mm thickness - Imagine a 7200RPM will be a bit faster, but could be heavier on the battery

Just make sure it's no more than 2 platters which will make the chassis 9.5mm high.

3 platter 2.5" drives are 12.5mm high and won't fit in a standard laptop HDD bay.

Physical Size: 2.5 inches
Drive size: Not certain,is it running Windows 7?

And I'd recommend the Seagate Momentus XT 750GB. 750GB hdd with 8GB SSD cache. I run one in one of my laptops, makes the world of difference.

SouthBit hows speeds with that compared to an SSD ? - I got the earlier XT & wondering if there is a noticable differance or not.

Previous XT was 4GB, this is 8GB. Laptop boots up 3 times faster than it used to with the original 500GB 7200rpm drive. All the programs that are used regularly open almost instantly. So for booting and frequent program access, it's pretty close to SSD. Accessing things that aren't in cache are done at normal speed though.

Ok thanks, just curious on opinion of someone that had used both XT & SSD - i got the 4GB/500GB XT & happy with it too but wondering where to go next - the 750XT or SSD.......Maybe a little quicker but not awe-inspiring differance by the sound, kinda what i was thinking might be the case. cheers!

Will definitely have a look at the seagate options.

Thanks again for the help on this issue.

Have a lovely day,
