Hi Guys,

Thinking about getting a HDD recorder that can do the pause and rewind like a PVR.

Any ideas / Advice ? or experience using them ?

dude why dont you just get a baby pvr? R1500 probably a lot cheaper than any HDD recorder you gonna pick up

Its hard to get one now because of the copy protection DSTV have implemented.

The main reason you would get a HDD recorder over a PVR is so that you can have more storage and move the files off the device.

These are the things DSTV would like you to not have.

I have an LG HDD recorder for about a year, which can also record to DVD as well. Works really well. I don't intend to go HD (as all my viewing is SD television) and I couldn't stomach the R59 p.m. 'PVR access' fee required by DSTV. That's like saying 'ok we'll sell you a car, but we'll charge you R200 every time you switch on the ignition'. Anyhoo, it has a live pause and rewind function but I've never used it. I use it primarily to record certain tv programmes and then use the onboard editor to remove any ad breaks, and then cut it to DVD for a friend. This is all on the machine, no external add-ons required. The downside is that to record any programme is a 2-step affair: On the DSTV decoder, auto-tune all the prorammes you want to record. Then program the HDD recorder to record at these dates/times. Works fine for me, but it's up to your viewing style and preference.
