Hi all what is the ideal temperature for a hard drive to run at.Have 3 ide & 1 sata in my box at the moment.

I stand to be corrected - but I *think* my IDE runs at 30-30 degrees ...

Best bet is to get the tech specs sheet for your specific hard drive model from the h/drive manufacturer.

I have a Hitachi 160Gb SATA h/drive in my laptop. The specs says 5 C to 55 C (and that's extreme!).
Normal running temps should be between 35 C and 40 C. Mine's running at 38 C.
I use DTemp to measure it:

Erk ... I meant 30-35 degrees. Seems correct when checking Globetrotters post. I measure everything using Speedfan ...

My 40 gig WD IDE (oldest drive) is running at 55C
My 80 gig SATA Seagate is running 38C
My 250 gig SATA Seagate is running at 42C

All very different temperatures.
I don't know what my hard drives in my USB external enclose are running at.
