What is the difference between all the different HDMI cables? I walked into HiFi corp and there I was stuck with 8 variants ranging from R199 to R1,899.

Can you please help clear up the smog in my head at the moment.
I have PS3, Sony DVD with Built in Digital Amp for the surround sound and Sony W 40". Which cables are the best for HD viewing?

The Sony cables were R529? Are they any good?

I just bought the cheaper ones.

I doubt i would be able to see the difference from the more expensive cables.

Only reason i would think of getting a better brand of cable is if the distance from the player to the tv was really long.

Shop around if you like and buy the cheapest you find. I still have to see what difference a gold-plated connector makes on a 1.5M HDMI cable that justifies its R300+ price tag from some manufacturers. Just make sure the cable meets the HDMI class of the devices you're connecting, i.e. 1.2, 1.3, 1.3a

go to Checkers hyper home bought a 3m HDMI cable there for R80.00

Works like a charm on my blu-ray player

These crazy people that think the cable makes a difference with a digital signal are just trying to rip you off or trying to justify why they got ripped off

Buy cheap if there is anything wrong with the cable you will know straight away.
But very unlikely that will happen.

Cheers

The HDMI class is decided by the device you plug you hdmi cable into 1.3 is when the device like a bluray player is able to transmit sound and video over the HDMI cable the first models of HDMI ports like 1.1 could not transmit sound only video.

The cable makes not difference

Even the cheapest cable can do 1.3a without issue

Its like trying to say if you add a printer to your network you need to upgrade the cabling

The 1.3 certification they talk about is just trying to get you to spend more money on the cable

the more expensive ones come with "I'M WITH STUPID <----" t-shirts to give to all your friends and family ;)

+1 - yip I love those guys! They are the only people I could find that had a 90 degree HDMI adaptor plug thingum for my Xbox.

Yeah also got a couple of those 90 degree HDMI adapters for the back of my plasma that is wall mounted with very limited space for cables that come straight out, far better now with much less risk of bending/damaging plugs and cable due to pressure from the wall ;)

Highly recommended.

So hooked up the entire system, Sony DAV777 HT, 50" LG PQ30 Plasma and PS3 with the HDMI cables and everything is running sweet! Now just waiting for a Sont A/V receiver(STR- DA2400ES) and I will be on the way.

Thanks for the help!!
