Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can advise me with a problem I have connecting my new Minix Neo U1 to an old Sansui PDP42 plasma TV.

The TV has no HDMI and so I first tried an HDMI to DVI converter but the TV didn't even see the input. I then bought an HDMI to AV converter (USB powered) from Uniterm Direct and now get audio and a monochrome picture. I've played around with what resolution and refresh settings there are but to no avail. The converter is set to PAL and the TV works fine with other AV sources.

Am I stuck with old black and white films or is there a way to get colour?

Thanks,
Adam

Did you use a powered HDMI to DVI converter, or just an HDMI to DVI cable? I don't think a cable will work correctly with HDCP, but a powered converter should work fine

If your TV has a component input (Red, Green, Blue + White and Red RCA), you can use an HDMI to Component converter

I'm surprised the HDMI to AV converter didn't work. Have you tried a different power source?

Hi AvSupply and thanks for your reply.

I wasn't aware there were powered HDMI to DVI converters and so, no, I did just use a basic converter plug. I rather suspected HDCP was the problem.

The powered HDMI to AVI converter works fine on a Sony KLV-20G300A of about 2008 vintage but just gives monochrome on the plasma. I plugged it in to one of the Neo's USB ports for power. Obviously, I'd prefer to be able to use the converter I've just bought so any ideas as to what else I can try?

Thanks again for your help,
Adam

Try powering the converter with a smartphone or iPad USB wall charger.

Does the converter have a Pal/NTSC switch, and have you tried both settings?
