Hi All, I am in the market for a new smart tv.

Budget is under 10K.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a 4k hdr tv? Preferably 55" if possible.

Or maybe non hdr 4k smart tv 65"?

It will be used for mainly gaming and streaming on things like netflix.

The skywoth tv's sound like an interesting option with the android OS.

Does anyone have experience going from non hdr to hdr? Is it worth the cost difference?

Thanks

Have a look at takealot, they have a few selections, and if you are not happy at all you can return it within 30 days no questions asked, free collection and delivery.

If you are looking at saving money I have heard good things about hisense.

This is 2k above budget though but its 4k and 65"

Or you can go for a Samsung, also never hear anything bad about Samsung:
Within budget but its 55" 4k

But mail point is order from takealot, see if you like it, if not return it you get to live with it and get a trial period basically.

I see a few options on takealot for hisense 4k hdr 55" tvs under 10k. I have heard good reviews on hisense. The Samsung option mentioned above is quite enticing although I want to stay under 10k.

At the moment I'm deciding between the skyworth 55" at 10K or one of the hisense 55" with hdr.

Thanks for the feedback

Asking because I am also looking for something under the 10k mark being good in a more brighter room than dark as well as the usual things like wifi, lan, etc.

The Samsung one is under 10k? R9499 to be exact

One thing I can say from having chose Samsung, panel is good, brightness is decent, sound quality is great, functionality is cool, note that the store for apps is limited to apps that samsung provides which should include the run of the mill netflix, showmax, facebook, youtube etc.

Had a hisence before with takealot and returned it for the samsung, It was sufficient but it wasn't uhd, samsung uhd is much better and the opperating system on samsung feels more fluid, faster and looks better but thats just to me, personal preference but like I have mentioned above, anything you choose with takealot is not set in stone, you can easily return it for something else back if you are not happy with no extra cost to you.

Yes you are correct, sorry I mixed up the hisense and samsung links.

So the samsung is also a good option then.

Hmmmm what to do.

The reviews of the android skyworth tv are very appealing, but I worry I'll be missing out on the HDR. Although I haven't really experienced hdr so I'm not sure how much I would be missing.

HDR is cool, it depends how close you are to the tv and the size of the screen, I would say for a 55" UHD would be a good investment, I have a 43" and I am happy I chose UHD

I have one of these and very happy with it. I got mine on special for R5999 just before Christmas 2017 and have seen them running similar pricing from time to time since then.

Edit: Just reread OP and saw HDR requirement. Not sure where this model stands on that.

Out of interest sake how is the smart tv functionality?

OK for me but I haven't got much to compare it against. Netflix is no problem but the Showmax app doesn't work for some reason which is annoying (which I think is the app, more than the TV.)

I did recently buy a Rii mini i8 a couple of months ago as the stock remote doesn't have a touchpad and the keyboard is nicer for you tube etc. than the on screen keyboard.

There's this option on the 65" side. Looks like a good deal at 10k, I don't know how I feel about JVC though.

Please no!, got the same model as a replacement , it's currently sitting in the box for over a year now.

Picture quality is decent for a VA panel but sound is horrible it's like it has speakers from a laptop and the Android OS is rendered at 720p so anything content and apps you access via the TV will be capped at 720p.

Okay thanks for that lol... Will stay away

You want low input lag, so get the Samsung 55NU7100. It is much lower than the hisense TVs, and on special it should be around R10k.
