Headphones Recommendation

Do you think this will add anything to the sound quality of the BD and Xonars?

Not too expensive and looks awsome

First saw that when it just came out. Pretty cool looking unit. If you're into the valve-sound, it may be to your liking, though not as good as what you would find with a typically larger unit. Power-wise, it'll drive a good chunk of the market well. I see it does 100mW at 300 Ohm, which means it'll probably only reach around 96db on a 300 Ohm set of headphones. 96 isn't particularly loud, but 300 Ohm isn't typical for more entry-level audiophile stuff either. I don't know whether it will significantly add to the Xonar. Personally, I'm more into a separate DAC that feeds into an amp, than the soundcard thing.

Thanks PP and Messugga

I think I'll go for them. Can't really see closed sennheisers in the same category.

Haha we're talking amps now :D

Anyway, anyone heard of audio technica 910 pro? Got an offer from tadco for those! They might make a plan for me to go try them out!

@PostmanPot could you point me to any threads about what next after getting a good pair of headphones. I mean in the direction of moving away from onboard pc sound.

Not sure, have not ventured there yet as I do 99% of listening on the PC. :D Essence STX and HD595 & HD650 FYI.

Make your way over to the headfi forums for more information on amplification and such. After a good set of headphones you will be wanting an amplifier and a DAC to feed that puppy tasty tasty signals to work with. After that you can look at preamps and such to finetune the sound to your personal taste. You can really build up quite a collection to cover your entire collection of music if you really wanted. Bit silly in my opinion, though I understand the motivation.

Get a good amp and DAC (this doesn't really change too much if you have a nice one).

What's your opinion on DAC and amp combos then? And I am certain that where I will stop :D

Does anyone know if the Creative Labs X-Fi ExtremeGamer Sound Card is amplified. I was told that these cards will be maybe amplify my sound when using headphones. I have the skullcandy hesh headphones and its nice and booming when I use it directly with my classic ipod clickwheel.

When I use the skullcandy headphones with my pc the sound even on max volume is not that loud enough.
I am too looking for a decent pair of sennheisers. I want to be able to feel the bass.

Can you confirm if a good pair of sennheisers will work on standard sound cards which are not amplified?

I'll put up a thread on carbonite if anyone looking to sell me a U3 that they don't want anymore!

I have a set of Koss KSC-75's. Absolutely brilliant for the price. Only problem is only expansys imports them AFAIK, and it took me around 3-4months to finally get them after paying, and having to email them weekly...

/necro

For anyone looking for some of these Homemark are now stocking them at R 199, yeah a tad expensive, I know. But at least they can be had locally without the schlep.

Awesome cheap set of 'phones for chucking around, and better still with the headband mod.

No, they don't pay me ;)
