Get open backed phones with a good amp and then come tell me sennheisers are better.
I'd like to see any sennheisers come close to the sound stage of the Beyers.

We're talking semantics now though.

Not really.
A larger sound stage will translate your sound better.
But this is from a production stand point.
This has nothing to do with personal preference.

Not arguing, just stating facts.

My point was Sennies vs Beyers. You missed the point totally.

But we are way OT anyways.

Ok, firstly thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. I havent been able to reply due to being at Uni. If i didnt respond to you, dont feel bad. I did read it and i have considered your views.

You want to better with G35s with only R600?

Good luck with that. You'll have to double or triple your budget. Those corsairs recommended above though aren't bad.

I never stated i wanted to better, I spent R1.3k on my G35. I also own the Logitech Z2300 2.1 which i spent about R2,5k on. I understand that in order to get the best, you need to fork out top dollar. I have no issues against doing that. I merely stated that i would prefer to get something MORE geared towards music this time than having something which had to cut back on music quality for mic in order to keep to a budget. The G35 were great, but it was predominately gaming geared. Ill be using the headset with my S3/S4 and tablet as well as PC.

These look decent. I love the 40mm drivers on them and the range is absolutely phenomenal. However the build quality does look a bit iffy. I have shortlisted this for now. THANKS!!

Lostears,

I'd recommend spending a fair bit more than R600 on headphones and then buying the Zalman ZM-MIC1.

This is exactly what i planned on doing. The mic isnt a major issue, as id only be playing Dota2 now and then. Mainly interested in the sound capabilities. As for the price, i only mentioned R600 as i know people would recommend something slightly better. So i started off on a "middish" budget of say R600 and allow for R200 - R250 extra. I dont mind paying around R800 if its truely worth it. As i stated earlier, i know that in order to get the best, you need to fork out the best :p. I'd prefer to keep below R800 though :/. I dont need that amazing quality, I do have a sennheiser HD500 (i think). One of the R1.5k studio quality headphones. But that is strictly for production purposes only. Looking for something personal now.

Duck Knuckle - I mentioned a headphone amp.
JDS Labs Cmoy BB retails for around R600 but the increase in volume and quality is like night and day.

Sometimes the suggestions are valid, we're not all trying to show off.

JDS%20Labs%20cMoyBB%20portable%20headphone%20amp.jpg

Absolutely nothing wrong with the suggestion. Thanks. As stated, im looking for headphones for now. Im not sure how usable these external amps are with, say a cellphone, which is where im primarily going to be using them. I do own a 400W RMS 2.1 system and will upgrade to something bigger hitting so external sound card is maybe not needed off the bat. But i love the suggestion.

To some off, i am willing to spend a bit more, prefer to keep below R800 though if possible. Im purely looking for something that will just give me that bassy feel to it when im listening to my music. I was looking at something like the new skullcrushers however, these arent sold locally.

Hey forumites, im back again with an updated feed. So i havent actually found a pair of headphones as of yet :(. My budget has definitely increased due to getting a much higher paying job :p. So once again, i seek adivce on headphones which are viable on the market today :).

Headphones which caught my eye are the following:

Crushers - 55 MM dual sound drivers - kalahari

Or even the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Except I'm not entirely sure as to how ill get these here in SA and it is a bit expensive. Im willing to go around R1000 - R1300 or so. Depending on quality and stuff. But definitely well short of R2k. Was even looking at going for something in the senheiser HD558. Your input would be more than appreciated :)

You do know Sennheiser also has open backed headphones right?

The ATH-M50 you can buy from Amazon, but they will be outside your budget. I bought my AKG and Sennheiser headphones from them. Some models they ship internationally, some they don't. Also rather oddly the Sennheiser pair was much cheaper from Amazon UK.

Which Sennheisers do you currently have that you said "HD500", which I've never heard of :) ?

There are HD600's, but they're like R3k+. The HD555's (like an older HD558 model) is perfect for personal use - and I can attest to that seeing that I have the HD555's (with simple "bass mod" done on it), coupled with either Asus Xonar Essense STX / U3 sound cards.

I use mine with the Zalman mic when I play games. The Zalman mic has the exact same cable length as the HD555's cable :D

The headphones that impressed me the most for its price point for studio use (at our church) is the Samson SR850C Pro @ ~R600 or if you want to buy a pack of 2 for only ~R800 !

I ordered some Bose QuietComfort 20 earphones last week and was shocked to see the price that they're asking here and even in Europe :(
Like its $300 on Amazon US and then 300 Euro in UK/DE, which is almost %50 more and then in SA its R4900 !

My apologies, its the HD 205 which i have. They are good, nothing impressive. Crisp but not kicky enough. I'm not really going to go the AMP route quite yet until i get my pc and a bigger home system. The headphones will be used mainly at work and on my S3 and Note 3 for music.

Perhaps i should state that my favourite genre of music is definitely electronic and house. This is kinda why i was looking at the Skullcandy Crushers. They have 2 55mm drivers in each ear to mimic live performance feel of the speakers on your ear. They are also prioritized at delivering epic levels of bass :p with a built in amp which is powered off a batter inside the one ear piece. So this includes the amp which is self powered meaning better quality than the generic brand? I know skullycandy is not most peoples chosen brand of headphones but would be awesome to hear what guys have to say about this. If these are next to useless please klap me over the head hehe ;)

Check out the Asus Xonar U3 USB soundcard/amp.

And then pair with Sennies, I'd try go to HD518 as they are so light and comfortable.

Also, stick to your G35s until you've saved up at least double, rather triple. R600 is simply not enough.

My Corsair Vengeance 1500 V2 was the best money I ever spent on a pair of headphones! 50mm drivers, 7.1 surround and circumaural earpieces puts you in a world of your own!! and it under R1000

A useful tip I have discovered is that if you live near one of the Musica stores, they often have a bargain bin towards the back of the shop, and invariably it contains one or more end-of-line headphones.

I picked up a very well-reviewed set of Frogz Coda headphones there recently for the ridiculous price of R299. Not bad quality at all for such economical phones, and with a great build quality.

They might be good bang for buck but calling them too end audiophile level kit is pushing it a tad, don't you think?

I use skull candy's, the bass is awesome, perfect for DNB, Dubstep, House etc. Got mine for R600 so the price was good too.
