Hey guys,

So this is my first thread here and im hoping no one has made a similar thread. If so i do humbly apologize. My current headset (Logitech G35s) are currently coming to the end of their lifetime and thus i found myself in the deep market of finding a new set. While i have thoroughly enjoyed these headsets, im not sure if i wish to get something similar. Basically what im thinking of going this time round, is perhaps something more along the lines of 3.5mm jack headphones. Im not playing as many hardcore games these days, so find the need for a high quality mic a bit redundant and i could just invest in a R20 desk mic.

What im looking for in headphones, is something over the ear with a real bit of meat on them. By that, i mean some decent bass quality. I'm mainly into my DnB and Dubstep. I was thinking Sennheiser but from past experiences, i found these to be very good quality but lacking in the meat. If anyone has any recommendations, they would be appreciated. My budget is around R600, can be swayed to spend more, if the quality and meat is worth it.

Thanks in advance

You want to better with G35s with only R600?

Good luck with that. You'll have to double or triple your budget. Those corsairs recommended above though aren't bad.

They do Poffle, but you need to remember that not everyone has R5000 to spend on a set of headphones.

Go for Beyerdynamics, Ultrosones or AKG with a good headphone amp.
Sens are not that expensive.
I own a pair of Beyerdynamics DT990 Pro with a CmoyBB headphone amp.
Great setup.

You guys need to read what OP wrote. Coming here and stating you own R2 500+ headphones with headphone amps is useless as he only wants to spend R600.

Soundcards are clearly out of the question with his budget. Let's actually help him out instead of showing off systems.

That's not what I was doing.
It was stated that Sennheisers are going to be R5000.
I was just putting everything into perspective.

AKG have very well priced headphones that are far better quality for the price.
K77 or k99 will be good
Even Grados are good for the price and within his price range.

R600 pair of sennheiser headphones.
Pair of HD 201 , HD 219 or HD 205

When you registered with the name "lostears" two years ago, did you ever think your first thread would be about sound?

Duck Knuckle - I mentioned a headphone amp.
JDS Labs Cmoy BB retails for around R600 but the increase in volume and quality is like night and day.

Sometimes the suggestions are valid, we're not all trying to show off.

OPs total budget is R600 though for headphones. I don't think he'd be able to fork out another R600.

Obviously running headphones through an amp would improve the overall quality of the sound and the Cmoy BB offers the Bass Boost switch which is right up OPs alley.

Unfortunately, we need to look at headphones only as stated in the opening post.

Don't waste your money on expensive headphones amps. Trust me; I have been there before.

The headphones and amps that I have:

Headphones:
Sennhesier HD-200
Sennheiser HD-280 PRO
Sennheiser HD-595
Sennheiser HD-650
Ultrasone HFI-680
Amps:
DIY CMOY amp
Total Bithead
Yulong DAH1 MkII

Out of my experience I would just get a decent set of headphones and skip the headphone amp.
If you like a neutral sound then get the HD-280. My favorite. Great with old music with high dynamic range.
If you like a laid-back sound without needing to hear all the details get something like HD-598/HD-650. Also a good option if you listen to new music with a low dynamic range.
The Ultrasone HFI-680 is a good in-between headphone. I use them mostly at work. Got them for R1700 at Have2Have a while back.

EDIT: For around R600 I would get the Sennheiser HD-202

I'll second that... I'm using the PC350's with the Xonar Xense. Best buy I ever made. Even the Virtual Surround in game is brilliant.

Get open backed phones with a good amp and then come tell me sennheisers are better.
I'd like to see any sennheisers come close to the sound stage of the Beyers.

We're talking semantics now though.
