Hi

I am really stuck on this. Have read back a few pages and can't find a recent headset posts.

I am looking to buy a new headset mainly for gaming. I play FPS and will be playing Diablo 3 soon.

Would like to get surround sound headphones for FPS.

The headsets i have been looking at are:

1. Vengeance® 1500 Dolby 7.1 USB Gaming Headset (What i think i am gonna get)

2. Turtle Beach Z6A PC (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/pc-gaming-headsets/ear-force-z6a.aspx) (Looks complicated because you can control all the sound channels independitly)

3. Sennheiser PC 350 Pro Gaming Headset (Little out of my budget, but who needs to eat right)

The Turtle Beach runs off you sound card and i have only onboard sound on a MSI890-GD70 motherboard. Not really intersted in getting a sound card as well.

I don't like the G35 read a whole lot of bad reviews on it.

MY budget is R1300 but can be stretched a little as in the case of the PC350.

Please guys any and all advice would be greatly appriacted even if it is other Headphones not on my shortlist.

Thanks!

There's no point in surround sound headphones. The speakers are too close to your ear. Get a set of sennheisers.

Rather get Sennheiser PC-360. PC-350 are 150Ohm and require amplification to work properly, vs 50Ohm PC-360.

I strongly suggest pairing them with the Asus Xonar U3. It adds some amplification and has the gaming/surround presets you need.

If you got 2.3k you can get the asus xonar xense. The headset is not great for music though but it excels for gaming. Closed design which is awesome because it is snug fit and doesn't hurt your ears. Although sweat is an issue in summer if your room isn't cool.

The best thing you can do though is read read read. Go google and read as many reviews as you can and then decide.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies. I took PostmanPot's advice and went for the Sennheiser PC-360. They are very expensive but am sure this is an investment that will pay for itself in the future. Gonna run it off my on board sound and if i feel i need more will get the Asus Xonar U3.

Again thanks for all the replies and specially PostmanPot.

It's my pleasure. The PC-360's are basically HD555's with a mic. Their open design means you'll get stunning audio quality/sound stage.

Remember that normal 3.5mm audio ports only output around 30 - 40Ohm. I suggest getting the U3 now particularly for the minor amplification as PC-360's are 50Ohm. Any headset will benefit from the U3.

Any advice on where to get a U3? if you can't say here please pm me.

I would check the online shops in your area (might want to add your <--Location info). Otherwise you can PM me. In fact I have one here that I bought for testing, you're welcome to make an offer (used once, protective plastics intact, box perfect). :D

Nope. I bought it to test, and gain input... ;)
