Best advice for OP so far. I'd lose the olive oil though...apparently one is not supposed to heat it. Rather use canolla oil...might change the flavour though.I am thinking of braaing ostrich medallions that was brushed with olive oil and then just adding spices.
Braai less lamb and boerewors (the two most cholesterol rich), or trimmed chops, otherwise braai steak, kepabs with veggies, chicken and (if not halaal/kosher) pork. (or a fish)
Instead of eating braaibroodjies, eat a green salad with the braai and wholewheat rolls or eat mielies.
Tinfoil on coals: potatoes, peppers, butternut, onions, mushrooms, garlic)
Not sure exactly what you mean by healthier braaing though.
Reduce the meat proportion and increase the salad proportions.
Steak, dik plaaswors, sosaties (here you can choose some chicken), cheese/tomato/onion sarmies (once the meat is done you put these on the braai), lamb tjoppies (lekker starters eaten off the braai), dik pork tjops (with fat and rind).
No salads, no chicken borsies or drumsticks or wings (not even my dogs eat those!).
No briquettes - use all wood, keep it real!!!!
EDIT: make enough for 3 meals...

Really good one on the braai is tuna. Dip in black pepper and fresh origanum, season with salt - braai till rare and serve with grilled veg on the braai. Sesame seeds might work too but I've always been worried about them burning on the braai. Grilled veg on the braai is awesome - just stick them on sosaties and cut so that they all cook at the same time. You can also marinade your veg sosaties...
hmm interesting. Only fish I braai is snoek
how do you guys braai potato's? does it have to be boiled first then put on the braai? and what are good spices to put on the potato?
