Hi guys

Seems like I have solved my GFX card issues. I had to replcae my old mobo since the new one didn't fit. Anyway, I took it completely appart and put it back together again. Never closed it up and seems to have much more success with my 6200 card now.

I played DOOM3 just to see how long it will last and it lasted about an hour before it crashed again.

Now for my questions,

1. How do I resolve this issue now long term :o (How will I get a fan on this card ?)
2. Short term ?

3. Is there some kind of program I can download to monitor my PC heat instead of going to the BIOS ?

Thanx again for the input your about to give :p

Take a 3 speed fan and place it so its blowing air into your box. Until you upgrade :). This will also tell you if its a heat problem.

Just brilliant, i don't have a fan at home :D.

The card doesn't reboot the system no more, it just causes some wierd black screan background thingies when it's been playing for a little.

If you want to monitor the heat try a program called Rivatuner. Speedfan and Everest are also good. If it goes over 80f it's probably too high.

But seriously, your card was not meant for playing games, especially graphically intensive ones like Doom 3 (for its time). It's a media card. I used to have a 7300gs which is a touch better than yours and it barely survived on that game.

The box the card came in actually promoted Doom3, but i hear what your saying :)

I'll try and find those programms quick, ty :)

Artifacts... Good sign of heat problem. Have you tried re-applying thermal compound to the heatsink / gpu interface?

I have not no, I don't have any compound :p

What is confusing me is that it's running at 50/49 that is not to hot is it ?

My friend played doom3 on a radeon 9200 :D

Anyways 51c isnt hot at all, but hey re-applying thermal compound may be a good idea.

I'll be at my parents house in Honeydew this weekend, can bring ur card over coz I got some thermal paste to spare, will put it on for yah.

Send me a pm if u want :D

Confirmed, it's the GPU and the Core Temps that causes the crashes :(

GPU failed at 60.

How do I remedy this ? can I increase the fail temp or is 60 to hot already ?

wow assassin's creed on a 6200? obviously I've underestimated it. :D

You can do a few things to help your temps. You can buy some fans for the case, get a proper Zalman cooler for the GPU. But it's hardly worth it tbh. I would suggest rather if you want to play games with that PC, then get games that won't tax it too much. Splinter Cell would probably run well, that sort of league.

My old 6200A use to just slow down core if it gets too hot.

Though I must say, it use to idle at 35 degrees and rises to 40 degrees max.

I actually took an old cpu fan and screwed it onto the card's passive cooler...and linked the fan to the system fan connectors on the motherboard.

If the card is failing at 60 then you have seriously pushed it too far. Unfortunately you card is on its way out... my 6200 suffered similar symptoms before it gave up about a month ago. Time to upgrade.

Nameite, strangely enough I got the same idle temp after putting a small fan on the passive heat sink but it ran at 50 odd degrees when play BF2142.

Ok so for the time being looks like a Passive fan is the only way out. That and some gel :p

Thanx guys.

I also noted that my CPU runs at 16/18 that is damn cold, I need to tweak it up a little don;t you think :o
