>>What method? (Wood, electric, gas, cotton socks, willpower etc)

Seeing how its (+-) winter now (see sig) I'm curious who has started heating their house yet.

Today was the first day were things are getting a touch uncomfortable so I'm going to switch on the heating to take the edge off it a bit.

So...I'd like to know: Are you heating yet & if so what type?

[Not technically an Eskom/elec thread - but seeing how most of SA heats with elec it seems appropriate]

We are using electric blankets and inverter aircons. Currently.

Fireplace in the lounge , and samsung inverter aircon in the room

My plasma tv and my PC

I must say in my man cave I certainly don't need a heater with the plasma around.

We've put the wall panel heater on in the bedroom this week but just for comfort and then I switch it off when I go to bed.

So bwana aside, everyone is heating already?

The little NAS box humming away in my room doubles up as a heater in winter. Rather effective too!
ah - used to do that too...the old (non-energy efficient) rigs were better though in that regard...wicked heat output.

Anthracite and wood. Nice and toasty.
:) High grade anthracite and a suitable oven seems ideal. My parents tried anthracite in an open fireplace a while back & that just didn't fly.

Seriously, it's getting nippy though. Even in the day. Definitely no more shorts.

Extra clothes, but our house seems to be relatively well-insulated.

For the coldest nights of the year I use my laptop (after shutting it down for the night) to heat my bed. 5 - 10 minutes is sufficient to make things comfortable.

Somerset West, Cape Town
Using a closed combustion oven (cast iron fireplace). 7KW - got it going right now and it breaks the chill. We have a camping kettle that we boil our water with each night and roast some marshmallows for the kids before bed time.

Costing me R300-R500 in wood depending if its used in the day. Cheaper than what my oil heater would cost and love the atmosphere it gives.

I hold out for long as possible. Besides wearing a jersey to work nothing has changed since summer. I will be getting the electric blanket out this weekend to preheat the bed tho.
I can already see the geyser using more juice.
When it gets really cold I will start the gas heaters, and when entertaining or appropriate I will get the fireplace going.

Currently blankets and hot water bottles while watching TV, using computer etc.

Saw something like this yesterday while in Sandton City. I am considering it. Works with a biofuel gel. Smoke and odorless. Does anyone know how long the gel lasts before you have to refill again?

Fortunately it's tshirt weather, even tonight. It's not going to last but I'm enjoying it while it does.
There was a cold snap for a couple days about fortnight ago when we had the gas heater going in the evening but, as you say, it's currently quite balmy in PE - just the way I like it :)
