HEIC format

Thanks for the detailed replies !

Someone mailed me a few HEIC photos last month (Windows 10) and I couldn’t view. I just needed something to open, which was easy enough.

I wonder why Windows don’t support ? Maybe Windows 11? I’ll try a bit later

I don’t think you’re really understanding the question
Maybe not, but my contribution is that the forum complains about the format when you try upload HEIC. If that isn't the case then it could be one of the other forums like carb or powerforum that complains about the file. I've had to open files and take screenshots sometimes (saved as jpg) to get it to upload.

What did I miss when you referred to compatibility?

You missed that I'm asking about general incompatibly - not MyBroadband specifically.
I was wondering from those that have used it where they have struggled ? Google Photos ? Outlook etc ?
In other words, have their been any apps or programs that won't read it that I may not have listed - Instagram? Telegram ? Facebook? Shelly? Google Photos? Skype? Teams? Zoom?

I've obviously tried some of those listed apps & have seen my HEIF works - but other users use different apps & programs to me - and they may had issues in the past.

As I upload it’s automatically converted from heic to jpg.

EDIT: I see it's also been resized and compressed.

Well it's a forum software issue or Android issue, but our interpretation of general differs. No biggie.

Interesting. Any idea why it won't do it on my Samsung A22? Not sure if it's related to the file or the OS on my side. Wouldn't mind testing by sending you a file. Will PM a WeTransfer link if you're up to testing out of curiosity?

It may actually be the software that generated the file to start with too... Wasn't the camera but a file Resizer.

I wouldn't know what to look for but you can share a file for others to test if you like.

Will do in a few, just out for a walk. I'm keen to know if this file will upload on another phone or OS or if it's a file compatibility issue. Will test on iPhone later too.

Keen to see if downloading this heic file and posting it here will work for others...

Just tested and no go for me on my Samsung A22. What's interesting is that Brave browser lets me select the file but throws an error and Bing greys out .heic files.

So Windows PC using Brave, Chrome or Firefox browsers, heic doesn't appear on the list of file extensions when I click the attach image button in the browser:

If I change that to 'all files' and select the .heic file, I get the error

That'll sort Windows. Unfortunately not Android in the browser / on here... Not sure if it will sort Windows in here... Going to test

You have a strange problem because HEVC/HEIF is natively supported on Android from version 9 onwards.

I was an early adopter of HEIC and the only issue I seem to recall was that it took Photoshop quite a while to adopt the format, in those cases I just converted the file from HEIC to JPG. I'm don't recall many problems or incompatibilities affecting me much.

My android device supports HEIC files, Xenforo does not allow me to upload HEIC files from Windows or my Android device.
Test from yours if you have a gap?

Also, the MS tool required to view .heic files costs R17. Not a lot, but not free

That photo I posted in the earlier link with the .heic extension tells me I need to install the HEVC video extension to view it.

Works fine for me but Apple should've waited two years and gone with AVIF which is royalty free. HEIC adoption will continue to lag.
Can you try posting this pic in the forum using your shiny new iPhone?
